I wanted to check in and first give a blanket Thank You to each and every one of you who left a kind note and/or said a prayer or sent a healing thought in the Chef's Mom's direction. We appreciate your well wishes so very, very much. It's been a crazy couple of days here.
As of now his mom is in the ICU and still sleeping. Her surgery appears to have gone smoothly and she has woken up only briefly. They reinserted her breathing tube because she is sleeping so soundly - which I'm sure I would be too after having 8 or 9 hours of surgery during which some people cracked open my chest, rebuilt the arteries around my heart, physically manipulated my heart and then sewed my chest back together with steel. And just think - she was in that hospital and in surgery in less than a 24 hour time period so this moved very quickly. Yikes. I can't even begin to imagine and am thinking I will only be eating only salads for the rest of my life. Or until next week when I fall off the wagon. I'm ba-ack (at least a little).
Anyway, Chef and his family are hoping she will be more coherent tomorrow so they can see with their own eyes that their mom is going to fully pull through. Unless you hear otherwise from me...she is on the mend.
Thank you again everyone. I never would have thought when I started this blog a few months ago that it would be such a community of support. You are the best.
xoxo,
Carrie

Hang in their, Carrie! Thanks for the update. I hope things get better, and I am happy the surgery went smoothly.

I'm so glad she's doing better! Hoping for continued improvement :)
Wonderful news. Glad it all went well. No need to eat salads only. Just reduce the meat intake and eat more green vegetables and take fish oils daily if you can.
Or eat oily fish and walnuts.
Walnuts are very good for the heart by the way.
In Germany Doctors recommend it to those who have had heart surgery. It helps rebuild the heart tissues and muscles.
Look after yourself;-)
I'm so glad to hear that she's doing better! I hope things keep improving.

Wow, what a draining circumstance. I'm sure you all are worried sick. Keep us posted! I (and everyone else!!!) have you all in my thoughts!
I am so so glad to hear this. Good thing she has strong amazing people like you rooting for her :)
Glad to hear things are looking good. Thinking of you guys and hope to hear even better news from you soon.
So glad everything went smoothly. She is lucky to be surrounded by so much support. xo
I'm so happy to hear that things went well. I was a wreck when my dad had to have bypass surgery, but it really is such a routine procedure now that you know our loved ones were in good hands.
Well the hardest and riskiest part should now be over so make sure you get some rest, too. You and Chef have got to stay healthy because the worst for her would be if one of you fell ill! So look after yourselves and don't feel guilty doing it, it's a must. Big hug!
Glad to hear things went well. I hope everything continues to go well.

My best wishes for Chef's mom, I sincerely hope she'd be getting well soon... Hang in there, Carrie.
Somehow I missed this. Sorry. I hope and pray that she will be okay. My Dad had this years ago. The first few days weren't good then all of a sudden he was dismissed. Things turn around fast. Hoping that happens for her.
prayers to you, chef and mum chef

Great to hear that surgery went well! I know just the words/letters "ICU" are scary enough, but it's good to know that she is getting constant care!
I'm so happy to hear the surgery went smoothly. Hang in there! Thanks for updating us, we're all worried about you!

Thanks for the comment Carrie!
You would not believe the things I witness at my salon... the owner tearing up a customer's newspaper, one of the manicurists taking money out of a customer's hand for her own tip!!! Craziness! I continue to go b/c the mani/pedi is $20!
But I swear, every time I go, I promise myself it's my last time.
{I think Im heading there tomorrow}
Have a great weekend!
xx
Oh my, I didn't know this happened! I'm so sorry! Tell the Chef I will be keeping his mother and family in my prayers. I will ask the Lord to bless her with a strong recovery. I'm also praying and asking God to give the Chef strength at this time too. I can't imagine how hard this is for him. I'm glad to read about the good news. And I'm praying for your strength too Carrie. I know he is happy he has you for your love and support. wishing you all the best and keeping you in my prayers!
God Bless,
Charmaine
Isn't the blogging community such a wonderful, supportive community?! Glad to hear she's now in recovery, prayers and thoughts still headed your way!! :)
Hey Carrie, I hope she is doing well (and same for you!). When a scare like this happens, I always swear off of sweets + plan to eat healthy the rest of my life, too...it's a work in progress :) Take care!
