Let Me Off The Room's Spinning

Just when I thought it was safe to pack up my summer wardrobe and head into fall, someone apparently pushed Mother Nature off the merry-go-round and in her confusion she's decided it's still summer.  Either that or seeing as we didn't get much of a summer here in Southern California, I can only assume she's been on that ride since last fall and is trying to warm up now that she's been let off.  Poor thing.  Speaking of poor things, this morning when I went to get ready to meet Shannan (from Merci Blah Blah) for brunch I didn't realize it was, oh, 80 degrees outside.  Niiiiiiice.

The vast majority of my summer clothes are in bins so high in the closet it would take something akin to a circus act for me to get them down.  I was already running late and in no mood to swing from the hangbars, so decided to remain in present season and make.it.work.  A few jersey/caftan things stay hanging year round, so I grabbed one and mixed it with denim (rolled a la Isabel Marant seen here and here) and a pony hair clog that has been crying for fall freedom.  Despite the warm temperatures I was able to keep relatively cool while surrounded by people in shorts and t-shirts.  This weather really is getting confusing.

After some wonderful conversation and laughs over some equally delectable pavlova, the Chef and I bid farewell to Shannan and her husband, Tom so they could go enjoy the remainder of their day in Laguna.   We're hoping this fun couple ends up in California some day - it was one of those meetings where you feel like you've known the other people forever.  The best!  Mid-way through our drive home we stopped to take in some of the late afternoon sun in a quiet neighborhood near where the Chef grew up.  It was very much a perfect summer day.  In fall.

Spider-man's sister?

 Cat Woman?

 Wild Horses

 Batwings!

(sigh) Hello again summer.

Give thanks.
(Canadian Thanksgiving was this weekend)

Not exactly sure how the superheroes made an entrance into this post - a touch too much of the sun perhaps.  How was your weekend?  I won another CSN gift certificate at jammer's giveaway, but fear they won't let me pile them all together to get my much sought after bazillion dollar fondue set.  Oh no, not you again Monday!

You comment single handedly landed a pair of UGGs in my online shopping cart. I'd pull the trigger already but its going to be 90 DEGREES here tomorrow. But its in the 40s at night. Color me (and my sinuses) confused. Makes it difficult to get dressed in the mornings, thats for sure, but at least you're looking fabulous while the weather remains confused.

Great shoes. Went out in long sleeves to run this morning...certainly needed only a tank. Summer in Fall in NC, too. Hope it holds out for my wedding day though. Have a lovely day ~ Alexandra

Must you be the cutest ever always? Love your shoes and your outfit. Seriously this weather is completely bi-polar. It was 85 here yesterday, today in the 80's as well and tomorrow in the 40's its rather annoying. Hope you are enjoying your monday!

It is so hard getting dressed in that kind of weather! It's actually just suddenly turned cold here and I'm trying to huriedly pull out the sweaters before I catch cold!

ChinkyGirLMeL said...

As always I am so jealous of your outfits. Do promise me that when I am back in California you will let me raid your closet? =)

Re: your giveaway wins, they actually won't let you combine any--they're technically promo codes, not gift cards, and you only get one per order (last I checked, anyway, when i was trying to combine one with a promo code from a magazine for 10% off). Too bad, because I've won a few I'd like to put together!

Ugh I so can relate to you. It was like that a few weeks ago here and it was actually pretty hot on Saturday too. How is one to dress??? I think fall is truly here to stay though now. At least that's what I'm guessing looking at this week's forecast....

Love those pony haired clogs and that shirt. Just gorgeous! And yay for meeting a fellow blogger. Isn't that the best?

Have a fabulous Monday, sweetie! xoxo

Ugh, you are so right, I was wearing a COAT last week, and I'm about to dig out something summery for errands today. I thought just DC was tricky but it seems like this is happening everywhere!!

Hmmmm....nothing more frustrating when you have a great jacket or scarf you want to wear and it's too hot to wear it! Surprisingly Washington is having similar weather fluctuations.

I know what you mean, September was freezing cold here and now it's so hot I had to dig out my summer clothes! I love your shoes! Love the shout out to Canadians on Thanksgiving.

I am giggling here as I read your weather woe ~ hot, cold, hot, cold ~ pleased to tell you fall has arrived here in the Maritimes ~ I turned the furnace on yesterday as my feet were frozen! Turkey time yesterday at the in-laws now tonight at Mom's ~ love me some pumpkin pie. Ta ta for now and Happy Thanksgiving. xo

Carrie, the fit on those jeans is utter perfection -- you look stunning! We're experiencing the same random heat wave here but I am officially out of creative warm-weather outfits -- seriously, I need some hardcore inspiration.

It was summer here too, and you know I loved it!!!! I need those shoes BTW...who are they by???

I've been having such a hard time with all these weather changes, but at least it's only swings of 20 degrees or so! Even if the weather feels like summer, my kitchen smells like fall!

Stacey said...

It was the same here too(weather wise)this weekend, but i loved it(low 80s). I love the looks too-are those shoes a different colour pair to the ones you purchased from free people? Probably not, because the other ones didn't have embellishments...Anyway, they look fierce-the entire outfit was hot. XX

Nikki said...

I can totally relate to your weather woes. Each day here is a surprise and sometimes its 80degrees in the afternoon and 40 at night. Makes it impossible to commit to any outfit for longer than 2 hours.
You look gorgeous either way, and love your shoes!

I can't figure it out either! I am ready to pack away all the summer fun and bring out the sweaters, long sleeves, boots, but this heat is not having it! Oh us poor souls! ;) hugs

it was so warm this weekend in sf! i wanted to wear my new vince sweater but was sweating everywhere i went in it!!

Valerie said...

I can't decide what season it is around here. I'm loving the warm weather, but at the same time trying to go to the pumpkin patch and drinking hot chocolate don't really work when it's 80 degrees outside. Your outfit is adorable and WHERE have those clogs been hiding?? Love them, Carrie! Glad you had a fun weekend and were able to pull an outfit together for this crazy weather.

Oh you were in LB this weekend? What a nice way to beat the heat! The lunch get together sounds fun and I understand on the whole weather thing. I think I got heat stroke from being out at the RB flea market yesterday. ugh... But I AM happy it's finally Summer even though it's Fall now.

Awesome summer goodness! And a blogger meetup, could it be that I'm jealous? But we're in a warmer place currently, so I can't complain about not having a touch of summer weather!

Those shoes have me seriously swooning. Just look at them! Perfect. It's hot here too today . . . goodness gracious alive, make up your mind already, California! As much as I love beachy weather (let me clarify: while AT the beach), I'm totally ready to embrace the chill. So quit f'ing with me!!! :)

p.s. my solution? maxi dress/cardigan. cardigan on, cardigan off. cardigan on, cardigan off. etc.

Seriously, what is up with this crazy weather?! I don't know how to dress from day to day. The first thing I do each morning is check the predicted temps! I just want fall already haha!

Margaret said...

Ha I just bought a pair of clogs that are very similar to those- love them. On another note, I have decided to completely ignore the weather- 90 degrees? leather jacket. 40 degrees? sundress. I am finding that it works quite well, minus the discomfort factor.
