Pennywise? Is That You in the Drain?

Today started out with mad buckets of rain before the sun was even up.  De-lish!  I love a good rain storm and immediately rolled over and went back to sleep to wait for the 8:15 alarm.  Cue thunder and lightning - so instead I just laid there in my cozy bed, covers pulled up around my ears, listening to a storm we aren't usually so lucky to get here in Southern California.  By noon it still hadn't let up, so I walked out of my office, opened the front door and stood there a moment before grabbing the camera as the rain poured down.

Crazy, huh?  You can totally see the flooding along the sidewalk.

By late afternoon I was in a full-on mood for comfort food so before the Yankees game could start (heeelp me)  we ran out to grab some essential ingredients in the midst of a torrential downpour.

Have you ever read Stephen King's "It"?  I gotta say - that book had me looking under the bed, down the sink, in the pipes, and over my shoulder for months.  I could barely glance at an old newspaper or yearbook for years without thinking an image was going to speak to me.  And storm drains?  Oh hell no.  I would cross to the other side of the street.  Yet I have to admit - even as I was crossing I would be looking back over my shoulder to see if Pennywise the Dancing Clown was staring back at me from the drain, holding out a balloon to entice me, just waiting to rip my freaking arm out of the socket!!

What was that Pennywise?  You want me to hand you the lid
to your soda?  Nice try bitch - I don't think so.

You in there? I hear the circus music...

NOT FUNNY CHEF!! (my bf for those who just started following)

Okay funny haha you got me.  Just don't do it again.
Especially not while the neighbor's watching me from his front porch
as I stare into the drain hollering for Pennywise.  Good grief.

I see you trying to pass me the fake shoe that'll
turn into a big moth and chew my face off, Pennywise!
(He knew your greatest fears and used them to terrorize you to death!!)

The funny thing is though, Pennywise could morph into all kinds of different
things - whatever IT needed in order to get rid of you.
One minute I'm standing on the sidewalk.
The next a truck comes zooming up out of nowhere and,
despite ample room to park all over the street,
it veers up onto the sidewalk directly behind me!!
Coincidence?  I think not...IT!

One of my favorite things about the story is how it brings a group of misfit kids together and paints a picture of the bonds of unbreakable friendship (amidst ultimate childhood nightmares come true - thanks Stephen King).  Along the way the group learns that it is what they believe will work that ultimately succeeds when they come up against the thing itself...which means I'm going to make like Eddie and sleep with an asthma inhaler under my pillow from now until the trauma of 'It' memories subside.  If I think of it as bleach in the eyes - then it can be.

Outfit details:  Wooden Ships-Beanie, A&F-Sweater, A&F-Scarf, Splendid-Leggings, Kate Spade-Rain boots, TK Bags-Handbag

HELL TO THE NAH. The WORST part is when the kid is in his room and sees the CLOWN'S FINGERS FEELING UNDERNEATH THE DOOR. No thank you. Clowns are fuh-REAKY. Thanks so much for reminding me of this book. I laid awake all night one night reading it in my bed til the wee hours of the morning and then couldn't sleep.

Arrrggghhh!!!!

Merci,
Shan

P.S.
You have a serious case of The Cutes.

I LOVE your rubber boots, they are so cute : )

I'm drinking tea right now, just FYI ; )

And thanks for your birthday message Carrie : )

First of all, you look absolutely adorable and it's pouring rain. Am I jealous? Quite so. Second, I watched IT when I was about ten years old and wouldn't wash my hands without having a meltdown first because I thought something was going to come through the drain and get me. Horrible horrible movie!

Cute rain boots -- one of my friends is dressing as Pennywise for Halloween and I've been helping make the costume so I've been looking at pictures of Pennywise for like a month and starting laughing when I read this.

I love the boots and maintain that I want to go and play in the rain. I have not seen this movie because I have not seen ANY scary movie but it sounds terrifying. Have I mentioned I can't even see the previews for any scary movie? Yeah I have to stop talking about this, I'll start shaking in a minute. Biggest. scaredy. cat. ever.

Okay, first, I LOVE you in this outfit! You look adorable in rainy day wear! Second, please, please, please do NOT mention Pennywise! Seriously, I had forgotten all about him until now. I read the book when I was thirteen and freaked myself out. And the movie? Gah! :P

I've never read It but maybe I should? I've been actually loving the rain this week (wearing my Hunter boots of course helps). The comfort food and hot chocolate have been flowing over in my house and I couldn't be happier. Actually, I could be happier if I were at home in my pj's instead of at work right now. You look so cozy and comfy in all your warm/rain gear!

I assume you're talking about yesterday since it's not noon yet? Otherwise I was gonna head right on down to southern California cause I am JEALOUS of some rainstorms. Growing up in Georgia, we had thunderstorms all the time--the good ones that really rock you--lightning that seems too close to be true, booming claps of thunder, crazy buckets of rain. That totally doesn't exist in San Francisco and it's one of the things I miss most about the south. I never thought I'd say that I missed thunderstorms so badly, but oh how it's true.

Love your outfit/boots. I don't even own a pair of rainboots, as they are rarely ever needed here. :(

Also, I haven't read IT (or any other Stephen King novel for that matter). I saw the movie ages & ages ago but hardly remember it. Now that I think about it, a good rainy stormy day and some horror movies while sitting on the couch sounds pretty dang perfect. Oh, but pesky work. Ugh.

A Crimson Kiss said...

No Stephen King for me, and that's precisely why! On the other hand, I'm crazy for a good rain storm, and just a touch envious that we're just chilly and foggy so far this week!

Josie said...

Carrie, no one can work a rainy day look like you! You're so chic all the time, honestly. I love your little hat. And can I just say that there is clearly a reason that I avoid Stephen King?

OMG, you had me cracking up all the way through this post, paranoid much?

I've never seen IT, I don't see anything that is scarier than Charlie Brown's Halloween special for fear it will stay with me at night when the lights are out, and I am home alone! Ok, so maybe I'm the paranoid one..shheesh!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the rain so much, you can have it all!
(and I've never seen IT to this day, my mom never let me when I was little, and now I hate scary movies)

That book sounds scary! I'm too much of a feathered chicken to read scaries! I'm done with the rain by the way, I know it's fabulous and all but I'm feeling like I'm back in seattle! Cute boots!

you've officially made me NEVER want to see that movie! Yikes!

I hate that movie. My boyfriend made me watch it... the clown form of It bothers me so much. Not a fan of clowns, especially after being borderline sexually harassed by one at a charity event.

You look very rainy weather appropriate, and I love your hat!

Hahaha, you're too cute! And i can't even believe you made it out in the rain for outfit pictures. That's some commitment! I love rainy mornings in bed, but unfortunately it seems to only rain on weekdays lately. I much prefer lazy rainy sundays where i can stay in bed and listen to it pour!

Bahahahaha best quote EVER "nice try bitch!" Hilarious. I hate clowns because of IT. I was afraid of the shower drain for years!

I hate the rain! It always rains in the afternoon here on my way home from work, while I'm wearing suede flats because it was sunny in the morning... then I'm drenched and my suede flats are ruined. Woe is me.

Carrie, you look so comfy-cozy-cute! Hasn't the rain been great?! I've been puddle jumping in my Hunter's, which is rare for October! Love it! Your KS wellies are so fun! When I was in the KS store, I was eyeing a pair but in LA, do I really need 2 pairs of wellies??

I can't even talk about "It!" That clown! OMG! I'm such a wuss, and scary books/movies freak me out! Twilight is about as scary as I get. lol!

Aaaaand what you forgot to mention is that the newfound friends have an awkward sexual encounter in the storm drain...do you remember that?! I read this book when I was in middle school probably (my parents were permissive creatures) and I remember feeling SO weirded out by the end of the book.

And simultaneously terrified. It rained in Phoenix all day today - and if it does it again tomorrow, all I'm going to be thinking about is creepy clowns and sewer sex. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Oh how I used to love a good rainstorm when I was living in San Diego! They were so rare, and so cherished!

Now that I'm in Alaska though, a rainy day just means being robbed of one day of my much needed sunshine! Ha! Funny how that works out...

Jess said...

Never read that book - kinda want to, but not sure if I have the guts to!!

p.s. Where did you get your rain boots?? I want!

Kara Endres said...

That's so funny. I started watching that movie when I was younger, but I didn't finish it.. clowns are a little scary already- before you turn them into killers! Do you remember the scene in Now & Then when the little girl falls into the storm drain when it's pouring down rain? Gross and scary, especially when you start getting paranoid about IT!
