Revelations From a Rooftop

I've got a confession to make:  I am absolutely uninspired by my wardrobe at present.  Whenever I think about an outfit post I enter the closet, become depressed, turn and walk out.  The solution is not buying more things to make an outfit.  Of that I am certain.  It doesn't take much to walk through Saks, Barneys or Bloomingdales (*or insert any retailer here*), buy a bunch of labels and put an outfit together - let's face it - it's label land.  It's just that, well, all of that has suddenly become very bland to me.  I think I'm having an existential closet crisis.

Last week, after staring at Olivia Palermo's $1200 $895 (red alert friends!  I just got a note regarding price reduction!) Daryl K leather pants (Daryl K are you out there?  Carrie loves your pants and is a total hypocrite after her above statement, but still means every word) I decided that I, too, must find my way into something similar.  This led, of course, to a significantly less expensive pair at H&M - which I love nonetheless.  It took everything in me not to throw then on with a fave Tank Farm T, but I wasn't going to a metal concert or a biker bar.  Maybe next time.
James Perse Cotton/Cashmere - Sweater Coat, T by Alexander Wang, H&M - Pants,
Elizabeth and James - Boss Haircalf Western Booties
Suffice it to say this won't be the last you see of these booties.
I envision them with skinny denim and a plaid flannel - due to wardrobe block
I haven't gotten beyond that part.  sigh
James Perse really does have some of the finest craftsmanship out there.
This sweater coat is one of my favorite things.
Free People Necklace.  Perfect mixture of clunky and junky with a feminine touch.
See even though I do love this outfit, something in me is just missing a bit more pizazz - a bit more creativity and off-the-wallness.  I'm feeling rather labeled out these days.  It's actually making me tired...has someone slipped something into my tea?

I feel a hippie phase coming on.

Glad to see the E&J booties. They're as fabulous as I knew they would be.

Something is in the air. I'm just in some kind of crisis, it's extended far beyond the wardrobe. We're going on Day 3 of this tomorrow so surely it's about to pass... I think.

Oh yes the wardrobe crisis is very common. Usually the more you have the more easy it is to put together an outfit, no? I think time, thought and organisation is the key! :-)

YEAH HIPPY PHASE!!!!
You look lovely though - and I must say, my favorite part is the cute white t-shirt. Those things are like drugs to me, I can't stop buying variations...I need help. Talk about uninspired! ha!

I feel like that every weekend. During the week I am stuck in staid corporate garb and come the weekend I hate everything that's in my wardrobe.

Love the fleather (faux leather, invited word) trouser/leggings. HOT!

First of all, you look beautiful no matter what you where. I am sure Fashionistas get fashion-block just as writers get writers block! Sometimes the whole label thing gets out of control. As much as I enjoy designer clothes I usually don't go there... just not a smart move with 2 kids to put through college. xo

You look super cute, darling and believe me I feel the same too..Sometimes I just dont have a clue what to wear!
Hugs, my dear

Those trousers are fantastic! I think the outfit is great but I've been hating all of my outfits lately, too. Maybe there's something in the air that's making us feel this way?

I know exactly what you mean. I feel pretty uninspired myself! Which is why I've been scouring through my style inspiration folder for ideas. You look fabulous and don't seem to be having any sort of wardrobe crisis, doll!

Those boots, that necklace, those pants...all so special, Carrie. This outfit is so Olivia P in every way. I love it all! I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately too and I'm blaming the weather (rain then blistering heat, then rain again, etc). I feel like I need some down time to relax and get creative but haven't had much of that lately. Hopefully we'll both find some inspiration soon! I have faith that the good stuff is already in our closets. ;)

hot boots, woman! momma likes.

I'm feeling a Lauren Hutton, Martha Stewart, Maine, Rag and Bone ish Americana thing coming on. Your hippie phase sounds much more glamourous.

I'm with you! Yes, I love you James Perse but I'm mad at you... You realize it's just a t-shirt right? yeah yeah I know it's super soft and feels I'm walking through fields of clouds whenever I wear it, but I just wanna clear up that it's a t-shirt. A T-SHIRT! Not a downpayment for a Prius. ahahahaha rant over!

The leather pants are pretty damn fabulous, and the sweater coat is amazing! I understand having a bit of a wardrobe crisis, but this outfit doesn't show any signs of dull.

My computer's broken, I can't see the pictures! But I've been feeling blah about my wardrobe too - fall weather blues? Haha, I'm going to just have to daydream the awesome boots, outfit and necklace you're wearing :)

Carrie-yes I think that happens to all of us at some point or another. But I love your boots and your necklace and I certainly adore Olivia's style.

Carrie, I know what you mean about lack of inspiration. I blame this on why I look into my closet and see a bunch of stuff and then turn around and walk out. I, myself, have been stuck in a flats only stage. Don't ask me why. I have so many heels and never wear them. SO silly.

I love your look, though! So chic, those leather pants are amazeballs and the booties are a fashionista's dream!

How cool are these shots?! Love them! And that necklace - so fun. I think although you might feel uninspired you certainly don't look it!
p.s. let me know if you try the soup.. as a fellow kale lover, I think you'll really enjoy it too :) xo

existential closet crisis - Love it! and i totally understand it. i go throw phases where i'm a fashion genius, and other phases where i'm completely inept at putting together things that seemed so easy the month before. i think i get bored easily with my clothes. which i guess is the best reason to shop at places like h&m - it's so easy to replace large amounts of your wardrobe with prices like theirs.

Lou said...

I love that you use the word existential - such an underused word don't you think? At least when it comes in the same sentence as closet?! We say wardrobe...but hey I know what you mean. I am loving the look on the roof...it's very - ummm - like from a film. Rooftops here are basically tiled and have a pitch so there is no standing on them. Unless one is a roofer of course... Anyway - please don't worry too much about the closet crisis (tongue in cheek) it will surely pass... Lou x

I love the way you expressed your feelings! A closet crisis? I can't tell your outfit looks gorgeous and those boots are hot! I guess we all feel uninspired at different times but I get what your saying. XOXO

Marie a la Mode said...

I love this outfit from head (to necklace) to toe! You look HOT, MAMA! I don't really shop labels, I'm more of an H & M and Zara girl because that's what I can afford. However if I had more moola I'd be all over that shiz!

Beautiful pictures..such a chic and laid back look..

LyddieGal said...

Isn't it awful, that we can look into closets, supposedly full of things we love, potentially able to create hundreds of outfits and feel like we have nothing?

And we just go shopping to add more things we are going to feel despondent about in a month.

We have problems. And we shouldn't.

I love the new pants, and I'm sure you will be able to finish your plaid look (does it need a scarf? A belt? A chunky bangle?)

i love h&m & f21. I've had some pieces from them for years. If you take care of em they usually last. I'm tyring to learn to only spend the big bucks on stuff i use forever (or at least a year or two!) :)

Ooooo, great necklace!

Its too early in the season to be uninspired by your wardrobe! I felt the same when I pulled all of my fall/winter clothes out of storage, though. I was still sick of them from last year. I have been trying to hit up sale racks and thrift stores to add some punch to my wardrobe w/o breaking the bank.

I'm finally climbing out of my outfit funk (It only took a theory top - whoops), but I blame pure exhaustion. And extra 30 seconds of sleep just tops picking out an outfit that actually matches haha

Bring on hippie-Carrie!!!

hahah, I'm sorry you're not enthralled by your clothes right now. At least you have the wherewithal to know that you shouldn't go shopping crazily to fill the void! I think you did pretty well with what you have here, you look very Lauren Conrad esque and all the neutrals make me swoon. Also, great backdrop- so despite your toned-down personality about clothes right now, I would call his outfit post a success!

Louise (Fifth Sparrow) said...

I agree about the funk... possible cold weather coming/exhaustion is my excuse (but it's pretty lame!). You really do look gorgeous here though, I'm in love with each piece of this outfit... how unbelievably cozy is that sweater coat, geesh! I need to be in that right now! xx
