O Christmas Tree

Welp with less than a week left until Christmas I have finally finished the tree. I've never had quite as much of a debacle as this year proved to be...we've had the tree for at least 2 weeks and holy mother of pearl I thought the thing was trying to take me down.  First I had to visit 17 stores for lights after most of the ones from last year decided they were no longer in working order and store after store was sold out.  Then I opened the lights, tested them out and a couple strands didn't work.  Then they did.  Then they didn't (you see where I'm going with this).  So I went back out to get replacement strands and finally managed, after 3 hell-filled work days, to get them all on the tree...only to plug it in and one strand went dead.  Then another.  Did you hear screams coming out of the west last week?  That was me.

I swear that mother stood for 2 days with no lights as I strolled off to bed in tears at 2:30am carrying a fist full of my own hair!!

Perhaps it was kismet for all my tree tricks at the lot. Whatever the case may be I am calling it a year (and a shot of tequila).  Serves me right, too - that's what I get for getting all wound up at the tree lot over a too big tree.  I'm lucky the ornament police didn't haul me over for not enough-itis.

After all the shenanigans that comprised tree trim 2010, please allow me to share some of my faves of what has turned out to be a very fun tree...

It all started in Seattle...
I saw this cat ornament and it was on like Donkey Kong!
I had to fly through Seattle a lot that holiday season.
Every time I did I made sure to get another cat ornament!
And another (note fur coat in background!!)
And another!!  It actually went on for a
couple of years this cat ornament collecting game of mine.
(I'll spare you the rest)
How about this cute hot air balloon?
Could only be better if a cat was in it. hehe
 And then there was fur!

This year I added some xo's courtesy of the kind
people at West Elm...who gifted a couple sets
to me when they saw the frazzled look in
my eye around Thanksgiving.  Love them!!
There she is in all her glory...bearing enough lights to kill the breaker if you
try to vacuum and dry clothes at the same time.  Oy

Only a couple more gifts to buy and I am done - Woo hooo!!!  If it keeps pouring and people stay off the road it could happen today.  Here's hoping for victory.  How's it coming along for all of you?

Hey after all the adventures, your christmas tree turned out wonderful!! I adore those cat ornaments and omg to those lil furs!!

I still need some more gifts but I´m almost done. I didn´t really decorate our place this year as we don´t spend christmas days at home. I fly to my family on wednesday, if the weather allows it...

I wish you a beautiful week and in case I wont comment before christmas, I wish you a lovely holiday time sweetie!!

I remember similar light debacle's when I was growing up. Eventually my parents remedied this with a pre-lit tree and a remote. It apparently scarred me because I won't attempt to light a tree. Our fake one is pre-lit and Jared lights the real one. Me and my temper couldn't handle tree lighting madness!

It's gorgeous Carrie! Loving the little cat ornaments ~ I will spare you the Boston Terrier ornament I bought in Montreal ~ missing my girl while I was away ~ it screamed to me from across the mall. Hope you have your woolies packed for the trip to the motherland. xo

All I can hear in my head is that song... the 12 things of Christmas that are such a pain to me... you know the part where the guy says rigging up the lights?! I am going to think of you from now on. The mini fur coat ornaments are my fave!! xo

Aw, haha, poor you! That would be so infuriating, I can only imagine! I also got a way too big tree. It fills my room, and I don't have enough lights/ornaments to really fill it. Oh well, they all turn out pretty in the end, and yours, m'dear, looks lovely!

Well it may have taken you a while to get it up but it looks amazing so I think it was all worth it - I love how sparkly and bright it is and the ornaments are unique and have stories behind them (which is always good).

Tree is great...of course I LOVE the little fur jacket ornaments! Let me tell you about my cat ornament...(we adopted a cat last week) so this morning I was having coffee and noticed the tree shaking...a few seconds later out popped the cat's head. It must have been a sight to see me trying to reach this cat and not have her freak out as there were already ornaments flying off the tree! Needless to say, I like your cat ornament a bit better!

Happy Monday! xoxo

Wow... That's one gorgeous Christmas tree. All the lights and decoration!!!! I wish I've got one for my home :( But that would be a waste though, I'm gonna be off for Christmas holiday soon...

Your tree is beautiful. I had the same light issue this year. Make me crazy.

Speaking of lights, I must know the exact name/kind on your tree. They are so white and beautiful.

When you get a moment...thanks!

I am in love with your cat ornaments! The whole tree looks amazing. Do your cats ever climb up it? We can't put up a Christmas tree because we find my cat in the branches and the ornaments under couches. She destroys it.

Oh, and yes, it's chilly here so bring your parka!

I am so glad you finally were able to get the lights in working order. What a stressful event. it paid off my friend, your tree looks so beautiful. I am impressed. xo

Carrie!! Your tree is magnificent! It looks like a tree that would be on display in a department store somewhere . . . except with much cooler ornaments. I'm smitten with the fur coats--they're the most precious, ever. And the hot air balloon! My goodness gracious alive.

Love how the tree turned out though - and especially love all of the cute cat ornaments. I'm going to need to get myself a few of those!

Oh goodness, your tree is BEAUTIFUL! I fell kind of in love with that cat ornament and quite enjoyed this second chance to peek at the fur ones :) Sigh, after a totally workcrazed week where I could not go online for anything fun, it's so lovely to be return to the amazingness here!

Hope you enjoy a craze-free week (is that asking too much?) ahead!

It's SO pretty! Great job! Every year I'd watch my mom agonize over lights not working lol. Maybe that's wht these past two Christmases I haven't decorated ;)

Glad you got it all worked out!

Jessica said...

Carrie, all of your craziness with your tree was totally worth it because it turned out to be PERFECT. Seriously, I just love all of your unique ornaments! I've had to aruge with Tyler over how many Bama ornaments are allowed on the tree (which is one, maybe 2). I'm pretty sure he keeps sneaking more on there while I'm not there. That boy.

Oooo, it's gorgeous and what fantastic decorations you have!

Yes I think I can see your tree from here. haha

It is stunning and so glad you were in my neck of the woods for your cat crazed ornament theme.

oh, your tree is glorious! thanks for posting photos - my tree is bare this year. silly kittens think it's their jungle gym, and now we might have to take it down early. seems they've possibly been munching on the (fake) needles, and it might be a digestive problem...

boohoohoo! i don't think i've ever not had a tree! so you can see why it's nice to live vicariously through your beautiful one. :)

I just saw your comment where you indicated that you're going to Canada! You're brave and you'll definitely need that electric blanket! We have family in Brampton and they wanted us to visit, and i had to inform them that no visits would take place at this time of year-it's too freaking cold there! Anyway, with that said, have an awesome time and layer up:-). XX

I have such a soft spot for quirky ornaments. They're so much more fun than elegant ones!

I'm surprised by how much rain you're getting there. Trade you for our snow?

Casee Marie said...

Oh, you're still well ahead of me. I have a charmingly tragic Charlie Brown tree that I finagled lights onto about a week ago, but my family's tree is sitting here with no lights - it's a real one, which I've never had before. It's rather exciting, but here's hoping we can get the lights and ornaments up before the actual holiday. Sheesh.

Love the cat ornaments, how fun! I have a Shetland Sheepdog so my mom signed me up for an annual Sheltie ornament from the Danbury Mint. They're completely adorable and I shamelessly keep them out as dresser decorations for much longer than I ought to...

this free bird said...

Casee I love it...don't think my whacked out brain doesn't try to think of ways to hang those cat ornaments from the blinds year round. Or at least til Summer :)

It was worth it!! Your tree is lovely and I love all your whimsical ornaments!

I hear you on the tree light troubles!! If only they would just start making those darn things better so we wouldn't need to suffer like this every year.

And I love the cat in the hot air balloon. completely adorable.
