When The Rain Comes

The past couple days have been rainy, damp and cold.  It's crazy to think that it was over 110 degrees just a week ago yet now it's sopping wet.  And now time for yet another blog confession:  yesterday I got up, worked for awhile, ran an errand, and went back to bed until almost 3pm.  Oops!  I just couldn't help myself.  The rain was pouring down, the heater came on, my bed was looking so fluffy and the next thing you knew I was in it.  Every once in awhile you just need a nap.

Usually rain highly motivates me.  It was probably all those years living in Seattle that conditioned me.  Oh yeah they conditioned me all right - to work and to acquire rain boots.  They line my closet like little soldiers.  Mock me if you will dear friends, but even if it rains once a year I put those boots to good use all day long.  It doesn't help matters much now that there are so many fun pairs to choose from!!  I  know you're with me...I read your blogs!

After it stopped pouring last evening we ran an errand and stopped to catch the sunset.  I wore my boots.  It was still damp and in Southern California that's reason enough.

Sometimes the rainiest days end with the most incredible sunsets.
Take note.  This is about as deep as I go in water.  Record.
Hunter.  Oldies, but goodies.  Fleece liners = faves.
Chef said something about "baseball playoffs".
This was just my immediate reaction.
In the distance I heard, "I'll leave you here" mumble mumble.
what-ever
This is becoming a common move of mine.
No rainy day is complete without splashing in puddles
and laughing with other adults who might be laughing at you.
It got a little wild.  As puddle jumping should.

Outfit details:  Club Monaco-Cashmere Sweater, American Apparel-Leggings, Hunter-Wellies and Fleece Liners, J.Crew-Belt and Hat, TK Bags-Handbag, Melinda Maria-Rings

Last night some weather lady (who was totally wearing the most inappropriate "da club" dress while reporting the weather - what's up with that?) said that it's going to be in the upper 80's and 90's for both Saturday and Sunday so she hoped we didn't put our tank tops away just yet.  Wait.  Was she wearing a tank top that I mistook as a dress?  You can never really tell these days. Just ask Laurenne - she saw it first hand.  I rest my case.

I'm kind of obsessed with rain boots. Like I want to buy some, then I want it to rain, and I'll go... stand in it I guess? I haven't really gotten far with the details.
I sense there will be an obsession with me and the Tucker for Target blouse. I already wore it around the house, lasted about an hour without it, and put it back on to "show Jared". (Like he cares.) I don't have to tell you of it's awesomeness, of course.

great pics - loving the wellies xxxx

Oh Katie...brace yourself. The tidal wave's a comin' and I don't mean the Alabama Crimson one! If you think you love that one just wait until Jared puts a silk one for you under the tree....Jared? You out there?

hehe

Love the boots!

Bat-shit crazy weather all round the world: I got sunburned on the weekend and last night, the house was close to flooding because of the rain. Enough's enough! Sunshine, please.

Love the yellow boots sweetie! I come from Vancouver, so I know that wet gear always come in handy. But, your boots are just too fun not to wear on a non-rainy day.

You are too cute! The yellow boots remind of fishermen - granted, you'd be the chicest fisherwoman ever!

I'd rather watch da club weather gal. Our news people awkward flirt with each other camera. Sigh.

Apparently I'm in need of a nap ... and I just woke up!

You are such a fun girl! Rainy days are MADE for sleeping... sometimes one just has to do it! I love your boots... you never see yellow... so cute! xo

LyddieGal said...

On sleeping until 3, im with you, on being productive, getting dressed and going out, not going to happen. The rain just kills it for me.
Partly because I never know what to wear. Maybe if I had an awesome collection of rain boots things would be different.

Naps while it rains...my fav!! Something I really miss about CA is rain. Pure rain. Here we get huge thunderstorms and flooding...no days if just simple nice rain. Those fleece lined rain boots are great. I wish mine were lined!!
Yes...I saw your Tucker post and drooled over everything. I've just been a very bad blog commenter lately. Mad at myself about it!

I have never been much of a fan of Hunters UNTIL NOW!!! Your fleece lined ones make me want to splurge. Seriously. I could just put my feet in fleece lined anything for the rest of winter.

Love the pictures of you romping around in your rainboots! The weather here has been cold with lots and lots of rain. This morning I woke up to the sun shining in my window. It's so bright and cheery outside, yet I sit in my house lol.

Taylor said...

LOL! I was the same way when I lived in CA!! I ran around int eh rain and puddles like crazy!!! Now the boots are merely survival tools in the winter, to make it half way dry to work!!!!

I love your yellow though, I went with plain black - boring I know!

Unknown said...

you've just convinced me to buy yellow hunters. i've always been a navy or dark color-ed fan, but the yellow is awesome. so bright and cheery!

i think i'm coming to LA the wkd of the 22nd - where do you live? (that sounded stalker-ish)

I am the most unmotivated person in the rain ever. Even at work I'm all droopy and blah...I wish you could share your secrets! I even bought a bright pink raincoat to pep up those dreary days but no such luck. Yellow boots sure do look adorable on you!

Thanks for giving validation to my latest daily irritant - that the weather and traffic "girls" in L.A. are dressing for the clubs and look as if they are sewed into their clothes. I mean really, is this the only place in the country that this happens? In other states I've visited the news people look normal!

I heard you guys were getting some rain! Love your boots, hilarious mention of the weather lady hahaha

its been a raining on the east coast all week too. Actually not today but its still dark and dreary! I NEED rainboots and am not quite sure why I haven't officially invested in a pair....

Jamie said...

YES I HEARD THIS FORECAST...and well you know what I just did!!!!!!! :-/
I guess I will pulling some stuff back out!

Um...these wellies are F-ing F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!! I love love love love the yellow! And the fleece liners...um..DUH! I had a pair of Navy wellies a few years ago and they sucked and were uncomfortable and I almost never wore them, so I sold them on ebay. No one told me about the fleece liners!!! That changes EVERYTHING!
The yellow is so unexpected but WAY more interesting than black or navy!

You look adorable in your rain boots! I love that they are bright yellow! I could have used some boots like this when I lived in Vancouver. One time it rained for 28 days straight. Ugh! Give me the Alberta sun any day! ; )

I want those Hunter Boots! I love them so much and I love the fleece liner. And by the way, you are absolutely gorgeous. So photogenic!

Ashley said...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone rock Wellies better, and I'm not just saying that! I've been lusting after a pair for years and still haven't bought any. I should, because I always seem to put on my suede shoes in the rain, and they get wrecked.

I like the beach you're on, too. Whew!

What a fabulous blog! Only just discovered it. I love these photos - the yellow against the soft greys. Found you, curious, thru a comment you left on a blog of someone who just commented on mine (?): Lauren, of Aspiring Kennedys. I loved your question. I think the answer is, you've got the best of all worlds. You're already friends.

A big long afternoon nap sounds so delicious-I could use one!

As for rain boots, there's nothing better than a good Hunter wellie! They're just so rubbery and charming!

I love your yellow wellies! You look so happy splashing around in those puddles. That's exactly how I feel when i'm wearing my rainboots. Carefree! I'm jealous that you were able to nap in the rain yesterday. That's one of my favorite things to do but I didn't have a chance this week. I did however go to bed at 7pm last night and slept through the night (until my normal wakeup time of 4:30am). What's going on with us? Oh, and re: your comment today. I LOVE tasting/baking holiday cheesecakes this time of year too. Last year I made a pumpkin pecan gingerbread cheesecake (recipe from Magnolia bakery cookbook) and it was fabulous! I might have to make it again soon.
