Mixing It Up: Tucker for Target Part 3

The morning that Tucker for Target was released was a bit of a nightmare (see here).  After finally finding availability at one store I opted to purchase several things knowing that only a few would stay with me and the rest be returned.  It's amazing how items can come together when they're hanging in the closet or splayed across my bed - far from the glaring fluorescent lights and pressure of making a purchase in the store.  Pieces I might not otherwise think of wearing together suddenly come to life and form the best outfits.  When I saw Gaby (Tucker's mastermind) at an event in Laguna Beach and later in LA the thing that struck me about her is how carefree and laid back she is - she mixes prints and patterns with ease - wearing different ones on top and bottom.  The Chef thought it was a little out there; I prefer the term "eclectic"...and very much free bird style.

On Sunday I threw this outfit on and giggled out loud when I turned to look in the mirror.  It had been forming in my mind since I first caught a preview of the line and turned out to be pure magique!  Don't you love when that happens?  I was feeling pretty good about myself until I noticed that the ad campaign totally put the same two pieces together - oh well, at least I can say I'm catching Gaby's flavor!!  For some reason I totally felt like Mrs. Roper (my hero!) when I was out and about in the outfit...anyone else catching that vibe?

It all began with this descent.
And the next thing you knew I was standing in a bunch of thistles.
The cami dress lying perfectly beneath the signature mid-length
...while I tried to get visions of rodents nests in the grass out of my mind.
The outfit is so insane - I'm in love with it!!
Two of my friends are missionaries to Africa.
The bracelet and the necklace were gifts from them -
and were handcrafted in Uganda.
They're absolutely splendid and unique in design.
The tights and shoes are what really take this outfit to a whole other level.
(that and my disheveled nest of hair and all the thorns stuck in my flesh through the tights)
Check the dress from the back - totally flowy and perfect for a fall day.
Well, almost fall on that day.
The next thing you knew it was time to tiptoe back through the weeds
and pray to God there weren't any snakes or mice out there. Ugh!!
(not to be mistaken for UGG! by Jimmy Choo sorry I couldn't resist)
Also doubles as a superhero outfit.  Ideal for scaling walls...even dirt ones.

Item details:  Tucker for Target - Camisole Dress in Halo, Tucker for Target - Signature Dress in Floral Print, Steve Madden - Empiire Cloxford, Anthropologie - Tights

Do you feel tense when you take outfit pictures?  I totally do!! Do you find the more unexpected or glam an outfit is, the less stress you feel?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.  And stay tuned for a guest post within the week over at Jess's blog Cheap But Chic where I'll be doing an item comparison of my regular Tucker blouse with one from the Tucker by Target line.  I'll let you know once it's up - if you've been holding off purchasing a blouse that post might help you make your decision.

Love, love, love how you mixed the prints. It looks perfect and effortless - exactly how it should. I would go rummage my closet right now to see what I could come up with since I'm now feeling inspired, but it would be lame and Jared is asleep and looks at me weird when I come up with outfits in the middle of the night. Weirdo. Anyway.

Mrs Roper.... hmm ~ had to wrap my mind around that one!! There are things you just would never think of putting together but this outfit is fab Carrie ~ not exactly hiking shoes you have on there ~ but they work! lol

This outfit is gorgeous! LOVE!! I especially love the pink floral dress...WOW. But you're right the tights and shoes just take the cake!
When I am doing outfit pics I don't really get tense because I have been in front of the camera for so many years. I think to me it's more of a fun way to express myself rather than work. But I totally agree that when I am loving my outfit I definitely feel better about what I post than when I am lukewarm about what I'm wearing. Nothing to fear here doll, you look amazing!!

I got the shirt in the same pattern as your dress, and found a big Navajo blanket print sweater at Tar-jay the same day and fully intend to wear them togeva.

You look so cute in this outfit! I agree, it looks better on you than in the ad campaign. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE those tights! I am such a sucker for crazy colored tights. Those shoes...OMG...AMAZING! I think the tights make them look even more fab with the color popping through. So, how many Tucker for Target pieces did you get in all? I was feeling guilty with 7 pieces, but I think you are right there with me! =)

JMB said...

Love the outfit! You have an eye for putting pieces together, I would have never thought to pair that dress with those tights and shoes! LOVE the one of a kind jewelry pieces that your friends sent to you! :) And I totally loved Ms. Roper.

Unknown said...

I had to smile when I saw your mix since it's the same one I plan to do once the temps drop here enough to pull out tights. The only difference is I'm planning to wear my olive tights and boots. Your esemble is fabulous!

your style is so unique (I don't care that the adds put the 2 pieces together!) because you did it all on your own. Especially digging the red tights and the super funky jewels from africa!

umm.. you are a million times hotter than Mrs. Roper! Although she's definitely a good hero to have.

I DIE over this look, Carrie -- you certainly worked hard enough for it! You've mixed prints effortlessly here; I especially like the under-dress. The tights and shoes tie it together beautifully! I finally made it over to a Target and fell in love with a bunch of the pieces (mine had a fab selection, actually) but none of them were really ME, despite how pretty they all were. Anyhow, way to rough it in the desert, my dear!

Are you kidding me, Carrie?! This seriously looks like a Tucker for Target advertisement! You look absolutely gorgeous in their clothes - these pictures should be hanging in Target stores nationwide - at least until the Tucker for Target collab is over. LOVE! But most of all I love those tights - ohmigosh the color is GORG!! :)

I love all your Tucker for Target posts, Carrie. And the long sleeve dress you're wearing is the same one I bought last week! I haven't worn it yet, but I'm dying to break it in and I love the way you wore it over the other Tucker dress and tights. It's funny that you mention Mrs. Roper because I reference her ALL the time when discussing my outfits. I have many "Mrs. Roper" dresses that I absolutely love. When i put them on and ask Gabe what he thinks, he looks confused and says something along the lines of "It's not very flattering..." Ha! Basically saying it looks like a sack, which is exactly the case. But I love them.

My wallet restraint is still going well. I'm exercising self control and I feel like a weigh has been lifted. Of course I'll feel differently when the perfect camel colored bag crosses my path.

The tights are the icing on the cake and make the outfit glam! I love that you went there with this look it's really refreshing ;)
I haven't forgotten your shampoo question but I was gonna check the correct names last night and forgot. I'm such a snob about shampoos it's bad! I have been liking the John Frieda Root Awakening line with Eucalyptus and Trader Joe's grapfruit citrus shampoo. smells amazzz. There's one more but I will check tonight. xoxo

Thanks so much Taj - I've been holding out and am so happy to hear from you. I'm a total shampoo snob too!! oy

I love, love, love that colour. And how cool are those shoes! Another great outfit.

This outfit is absolutely gorgeous and unique! You DO look like Mrs. Roper! Her style is crazy and insanely ecclectic. She was the only reason to watch Three's Company. Hehe. ;)

THE ALTERNATIVE WIFE said...

I can't even take it!!! This is so amazing. Every single thing. You mixed them perfectly and those tights and the shoes!!! OMG I'm really speechless. You rock Mrs. Roper! Oh and u have a soul sister in me. J often calls me that when I come out in an outfit that are Mrs. Roperish ;)

OneCraftyFox said...

I never would have thought to put those two pieces together... BUT IT WORKS!!

I have never actually done an outfit post, only three posts that showed something new I sewed and was selling in my Etsy shop.

I feel really awkward in front of the camera and never know how to pose. I feel silly! Teach me your ways, oh Free Bird... teach me your carefree ways... ;)

Alicia Lund said...

oh my gosh lately i've been so camera shy! aha. but love the combination of the two tucker for target dresses!! great idea gabby (even if the campaign did the same combo).

Ashleigh said...

Look at you being on top of it! You should totally get credit for being ahead of the campaign :) I love love love this combo, and the shoes...they're perfect to top it all off!
I've been debating posting outfit pictures b/c I don't want my awkwardness to be more noticeable than the clothes! Tense is a good word for it...although I did notice that with a flowy outfit I was more jumpy/twirly and casual.

Liz said...

I just checked out that Tucker for Target line at a local Target this past weekend. Unfortunately they didn't have very much.

I feel weird taking pictures of myself that's why I hardly ever do OOTD posts. Plus I'm just too lazy. :)

Lila said...

Mrs. Roper has nothing on you. You look stunning. I especially love the shoes and tights and how you belted the dress. Your pictures are amazing too. I don't know how you do it, I can't seem to figure out how to take such carefree pictures that show the outfit off that well. Must give us some tips.

Marcie said...

First, awesome outfit and colors. I love the tights and rustic location! Second, yes I feel tense with outfit pictures, so I don't do them anymore. I am to self conscious. I wish I could have a more relaxed look like you and Valerie. You both have my favorite outfit pics.

30 days!! I have to break a bad habit for 30 days?! This is going to feel like a lifelong sentence, but here goes nothing. I will let you know how I do.

I can't thank you enough for the kind comment you left on my blog the other day. It meant more than you know. I've been through a devastating experience lately. I haven't published it on my blog b/c it's personal, and I don't everyone to know...but I just lost the love of my life, and I've felt the need to resign from my job of 5 years. All of that in two weeks is a lot to deal with.

Don't you hate it when you come up with this brilliant, original idea, only to then find out its already been done?! Haha. So frustrating.
But the two pieces do look brilliant together, and I am very interested to see how the target blouse compares to the designer blouse.
