Happiness is....

A heat wave in late September?  Well, since we basically froze this summer in California I would have to say YES!  Last Thursday when the local weather guy said there was "warm weather right around the corner for the weekend" I gave the tv the ol' eye roll and kept on walking.  "Suuuuure there is Dallas Raines," I said right out loud in my own home (where no one else was at the time except two cats who "pretend" not to know what I'm saying half the time - except when food is involved, of course).  Never in a million did I think I'd wake up on Friday morning to the scent of warm summer air - it's a real smell you know! - and temperatures already at 75 degrees when I stepped outside at 10:30am.  Cut to Saturday when we were full blazing hot at 8am and it became apparent that Dallas had struck weatherman gold aka his predictions were spot on.

Suffice it to say happiness is also the cool comfort of a movie theater after you've relived several summer dreams you thought you had been robbed of (read:  strolling in the warm air wearing a tank top, skirt and sandals at 10pm, visiting a few of your most fave brunch places to lounge leisurely in the warm air over early afternoon brunch, and tending to your fruit and vegetable garden in the warmth of the day). Saturday and Sunday saw us in LA with temperatures over 100 degrees both days.  After puttering around doing warm weather things all day we took the ultimate lazy day summer retreat to escape the heat at the movies where we saw Never Let Me Go (starring Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley) on Saturday and The Town (starring Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall and Jon Hamm) on Sunday night.  Both of these movies, in my opinion, were excellent.  If you haven't seen The Town yet I will only say that Ben Affleck must have taken some acting lessons because he did a great job.  I'm a huge fan of Carey Mulligan and she was brilliant in Never Let Me Go...it ended up being nothing like I expected. If you enjoy movies that make you stop and think then you will likely enjoy its themes - they will definitely be playing over and over in my mind for weeks to come.  Has anyone read the novel it's based on by Kazuo Ishiguro?  I'd be interested to get your take...

this is the look of sheer "summer didn't abandon us after all" elation

I can't tell you how wonderful it was to be greeted by warm gentle breezes leaving the theatre.  We seized the moment to zip across the street to our favorite watering hole just to visit the bartender and sip on the best cold cocktails in town. I noticed so many people wearing cute summer outfits, sandals, up-do's...everything I saw very little of in June, July and August.  Even though we were all scorching I noticed no one looked unhappy, and for a moment we were all on the same happy team.  Now when does that happen in LA? hehe

Oh!  And happiness is also guest posting for another blogger!!  Jess at Cheap But Chic was so kind to invite me to her blog today.  I mentioned the post last week and it should be up around 6am EST - it is a side by side comparison review complete with pictures of Tucker by Target's signature blouse with one from the brand's regular line.  If you've been holding off making a purchase from either line this post might help you out.  Please stop by and take a look!!

Hope you had a great weekend!  Was the weather crazy warm in your parts of the country/world?

Don't hate me, but it appears the Southern heat traveled to you. It was cooler here today, first day in FOREVER it wasn't in the 90's. Not knowing if this will last I bought my fall tarts, pulled out my 4 Halloween decorations, and slapped the autumn wreath on the front door. It might only be for 2 days but I'm celebrating fall, or Alabama's version of it anyway.

I couldn't tell you the last time we went to the movies (oh I sound OLD right now...) but that Ben Affleck one has caught my attention.

I'm a little jealous - right now it's 37 degrees out. 37! That's only 5 above freezing! Oh, what I'd give for an L.A. heat wave. Sigh.

I'm surprised that The Town was good - it looks so cheesy in the previews and when I saw that Ben Affleck was in it, I completely wrote it off. But if he did take up acting lessons for this one, it might be worth the time! (That and Jon Hamm is in it ... but I feel completely weird crushing on him since we share the same last name - no relation though.)

Anyway, have a lovely day, sweetheart!

I'm totally curious about "The Town" now - thanks for the review!

Oooh and you've convinced me to get some Tucker for Target pieces!

Oh and I now live in a tropical country - sigh, hot all year round but easy to go shopping!

Tim and I went to see Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps on Saturday too. I have to say I was smitten with Carey Mulligan, she made the movie and she it totally rocking that short haircut! xo

I'm from Florida and we had one hot summer but now that I'm in Czech Republic for my husband's hockey season, I miss the sunshine state SO MUCH! Love the top!!

Sounds like Sunday was sunny in both hemispheres! We had our first, proper hint of summer and it was GLORRRRRRRRIOUS!

Hot days, when you expect them all to be gone, are the best surprises. Your weekend sounds just about perfect.

Your outfit looks great, love the top! I wish we got your heat wave here. I've been wanting to see both of those movies, so hopefully next weekend I will get the chance!

Gurrrrl, we are living a parallel life right now, because my post today is on the things I'm thankful for, one of which was getting date night with The Hubs where we saw The Town, and I ALSO mentioned Ben Affleck's acting ability. Weird.

Have a great day, lady!
Merci,

I'm jealous. Don't complain! It's been freezing here. Temps have been below average for a while...I just checked and it's 40 F out right now. I'm happiest when the temperatures are above 60 F. I don't know why I live here. At least I get to layer, and you don't.

I've never even heard of either of those movies...I guess I don't get out much. Glad to hear they were decent, though!

Have a great week!!

So glad that you finally got your heatwave! My LA friend sent me a pic of her car thermometer reading 107...wowza. It's cold and rainy here in New York, exactly what you'd expect in late (oh boy I can't believe how time flies!) September.

Hi Beautiful, I live in the equator and it's darn hot here. Thank goodness for Air Con, and I can't believe that it is almost at the end of September. Time sure does fly :)). Love, Hugs and Kisses, Jemina

It WAS crazy warm over here on the east coast of New England - on saturday at least. Sunday cooled off though and today it's rainy. I can't wait to see The Town. It's actually based on Charlestown, MA where I work!! Ben Affleck was on my street (where I live) filming a chase scene. now THAT was cool and I must see the movie asap!

BTW, I am so excited to see Never Let Me Go- what a sad but fascinating concept.
Following you now : )

Lucky you! With that crazy heat wave! I received word of the Norcal's heat wave (though I think it was more of a complaint, because it caused some power outages topping at 100+). Anyway, glad it hit you too and that you enjoyed it! :)

Going to check out your post at Jess' now!

I'm so happy that you got your taste of summer! And when I say summer I'm not kiddin...over 100??? How bout some nice days in the high 80s? You don't get a break do you? :)

I have to see both of those movies. I've been a bit gunshy about movies here in NYC because a few months ago there was a bugbed problem in one of the theaters here so I'm paranoid. I did manage to get to the movies last weekend though and I was unscathed so I'm ready to give it another shot :)

Have a happy Monday, sweetie! xoxo

I never thought temperatures of 100 degrees at the beach would excite me THIS much, but they really do. Who would have though our hottest weekend of the year would be the very end of September?? Carrie, your weekend sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the fact that summer didn't completely abandon us (and I love your look in the picture). Just when I gave up on it altogether, it appeared and it was glorious!!! We enjoyed every minute of the blistering heat! I'd actually be happy if it continued for another month, but I'll take what I can get at this point. Glad you had a great weekend! Going over to check out your Tucker post now.

Great outfit! It's perfect for warm weather!

Honestly, I am so ready for cooler temperatures. The summer here in Maryland has been too hot for my liking with most days being in the upper 90s. I hate it! Fortunately it's finally starting to cool down here!

Glad to hear you got some wonderful warm weather!
My climate is still playing tricks on me, one day its crisp cool 60s with frigid evenings and I get out my sweaters, and then it's 80 and perfectly balmy all through the night. Now it's back to 60s raining.

Hope you get to enjoy a few more days of summer!
