How To Not Get To Your Friends' Wedding On Time

Normally I would provide you with a summary of the things that occurred over the weekend.  In this case, however, it pretty much consisted of:

1. Slept
2. Assisted the Chef in consolidating 3 closets into 1.5
3. Attended friends' wedding reception

-with 1 and 2 taking up the bulk of the time.  Number 3?  Well, there's the story and it's a horror - really every girl's nightmare come to life, so get ready.

A few weeks ago two of my close friends had a destination wedding in Mexico that the Chef and I were unable to attend *insert sad face here*.  When Saturday rolled around we were really excited to attend the small reception they were having here in California for some of us who had missed their big day.  The gathering was in the late afternoon and it was a perfect, warm summer day.

I laid out a cute dress, a pair of my fancy heels, picked out the accessories and got ready.  Everything was set to go and we were even going to be on time (miracle).  I had my shoes and handbag by the door, and the Chef and I were getting the card and gift together when he said, "UH, don't step there!"  I glanced down and saw some grass on the hardwood floor - that's it, that's all I saw.  I looked away and, when I looked back, thought he had removed it so proceeded to step down....into a pool of clear cat vomit laced with grass.  This resulted in a yelp and a "UGH!! What was that?!?" as I hopped down the hallway on one foot as he hollered back to me, "Didn't you hear me say don't step down?  There's cat barf!  Did you step in it?!?"  By that time I had stepped into the tub - fully dressed, hair and makeup perfect, sans shoes and bag - to rinse off my foot.  I turned on the water and instead of it coming out of the tap, it shot out of the shower head - precisely as I looked up - shooting me in the face, on the hair, and all over my dress.  Destruction on the low seas.

As a result we were 2 hours late to my friends' reception.  We missed the pre-food visiting, the dinner, and the video of the wedding.  Isn't that special?  Not so much.  Note to self:  carefully check bathtub faucet settings the next time you step in cat barf on the way to a special event.

The injured party.
In short:  "traumatized".
I scrubbed my feet for 15 minutes.  I mean I did have to take a shower again anyway.
 Congrats Danny & Nicole!

Do you ever feel like every day/night is a full moon and every card in the deck is the Joker???  Oy

Hope you had a much smoother weekend filled with zero mishaps and/or yucky cat dealings.

I was at a friends house a few New Years Eves ago, and they had a brand new puppy. I managed to step barefoot into that brand new puppies very wet poop.

I thought I was going to die. I was literally bleaching my foot in their bathtub. So. Freaking. Gross.

Of course, I didn't spray myself full on with the shower, so you win! ;)

The shoes are hot though - I hope they've survived this tragedy still intact.

Hey, at least you still made it. When I have days like that I yell and just go back to bed.

seems ages since I visited- so sorry just been a little hectic! HA this is unbelievable.... I feel your pain (but only a fraction- as there was no wedding to attend!) While in barcelona- i went to rinse my feet, and instead the overhead huge- i mean like dustbin lid showerhead rained down all over me and I was soaked! You still managed to look gorgeous... 2 hours late was pretty mental.. although sounding a lot like myself!Katie.xx

Oh dear! I can sympathise as I've often done that - thought I was turning on the tap but actually turned on the shower. However, I've never done it all dressed up for a wedding! Poor thing - but it did mean you had a good blog to write today!

Living with two cats that get fur balls, I know your pain, oh too well. :/ I can't tell you how many times I'm ready to walk out the door, and I notice that one of them has thrown up! Ugh! Glad you were able to make it to your friend's wedding.

Aww, you poor thing. I've stepped in cat barf before and I know how traumatizing that is. But your situation is beyond that. It sounds like one of the many nightmares I had about being late to the wedding or a friends wedding. Yikes!

Ugh, how awful. I cringe just thinking about it.
Don't get me wrong, I love pets. I let my dog sleep in my bed every night. But sometimes, when you manage to step in a pile of crap they decide to leave for you on the floor, you have to wonder why you've decided to let an animal have run of your house.

pretty funny story!

Eww cat barf.

Love your shoes!

Valerie said...

This is the funniest story I've heard in a long time. I can totally picture you stepping into the shower and getting a big surprise with the water on your head. Haha. It's so sad, but still funny (now, I'm sure it wasn't at the time). What a nightmare! You still looked adorable and that is a fabulous black dress. At least you made it! After an incident like that, I might have just thrown in the towel, put on my pajamas, and crawled into bed. I obviously don't do well under stressful conditions.

Hats off to you for still going. I would have conceded defeat then and there! Especially with my placid attitude of late, which is attracted so much bad stuff my way!

PS. Surgery was yesterday. It went as well as it could have. Now hoping the recovery goes just as well!

oh my gosh... I know when I'm late running out the door, the last thing I need is stepping on cat vomit. And I can literally picture trying to clean it off only to get shower water all over your face. gosh, I cringe for you! That is a funny story though because it's relatable. Either way, you looked beautiful at the wedding! I never would've known.

Poppies and Sunshine said...

Oh my! What a nightmare indeed. I'm glad you were able to make it to the party for some of the time. Ah, how frustrating that all must have been! I can't imagine! I will remember to check the faucet if this happens though. So thank you for the tip!
