The Ultimate Escape

This weekend may have gone down as a massive fail on the blogger front due to approximately zero photos taken, unless you count the instagram of the pumpkin pie sliders taken in the wee hours Sunday morning, but in every other way it was a total win.  We hauled it to Laguna on Thanksgiving for dinner at the Chef's uncle's place where we listened to crazy stories, ate and drank... until I had to get cut off after spilling water all over the table upon hearing how the uncle used to work at a burger joint in his teens where they snotted in the burgers of particularly rude customers.  The next time you hear a burger employee holler, 'we need a SPECIAL' I highly recommend you immediately vacate the building and find another establishment.

I purchased zipola on Black Friday (victory!) and didn't even get out of bed until 5pm as a result of sleeping, Felicity marathon, Lord of the Rings extravaganza and more sleeping.  Did you hear about the mayhem that ensued at a Walmart here in SoCal?  Some lunatic woman pepper sprayed herself a path to the Xboxes leaving 20 sets of burning eyes in her wake.  Really lady? Really?? And people wonder why I refuse to leave the house.  There's something about Black Friday that has become so distasteful.  People camping out 5 days in advance, stampeding each other for crap they don't need and consuming en masse.  It's kind of gross.

The rest of the weekend went by in a blur of Elf, more Felicity, visits with friends, a closet purge and lazing about on the couch for hours on end.  Somewhere in there I finally managed to leave the house for margaritas and a mini dance-off, but that was it.  Yesterday when tossing out the Bed Bath and Beyond catalog I noticed something I might actually feel like buying:

If I had a Wii this inflatable car might be set up in my living room right now.
Given the hysteria taking place in stores over the next 30 days, however, I will be remaining at home in a mace-free zone, eyeballs and hair safely in my head.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Did you take your life into your own hands on Black Friday?  I want the mad details.

Funny burger spot story. Love the picture here - so playful and fun. No Black Friday stories here;-)

I had no plans to leave the house until, oh, tomorrow but The Sickness had to come along and ruin that plan. FYI, the emergency room is empty at 2am on Thanksgiving weekend.

I heard about the pepper spray lady all the way over here, now that is some dedicated shopping in the worst kind of way.

I heard about that crazy Walmart lady, that's why I was so happy to stay in bed doing a little shopping.
Sounds like you had a good time though, and yay! for Felicity marathon.

You are a riot, Carrie. No, I have no interest in risking my life to fight the crowds for the black Friday madness. The lady with the pepper spray was so nuts!! Totally takes away the meaning behind holiday shopping, huh? Sorry, I haven't been by lately... life is beyond crazy/busy over here. Thanks for your sweet comment over at my place. Hope you and Chris have been well. xo

Picturing you driving that in your living room literally made me laugh out loud--and I think it is awesome! Haha...and I don't do black friday either.

Gack! That burger story makes me want to go to a chicken place. It sounds like a totally fun weekend.. Here in Tn my honey and I had a quiet but relaxing time. And I discovered that I missed having family around. You and Chef are lucky.

Girl - I totally feel you on the black Friday grossness. As much as I love shopping, I don't love it enough to haul my ass to a stampede at 4 in the morning. And all the updates on FB (I'm at WalMart at 3:30 a.m.)???? What the eff is wrong with people???? Geez.

Ebenezer

I made 1 purchase, from my bed...earrings for $15 from an etsy shop. That was all the black Friday madness I could handle.

Yeah that wal Mart story is insane. This is why I am hiding in another country. I did some Internet shopping and that will be it!

I ventured out at about 11am on black friday and got some great deals! It wasn't event too crazed at that point. i can't believe the pepper spray incident.

it sounds like you had an absolutely fantastic holiday, glad to hear it!

I dropped by Target around 12:30 on Thursday night -- because I was on my way home and needed hand soap, mascara, and nail polish remover. The lines and the super crazy people were gone but I'm pretty sure the cashier thought I was insane.

Haha! I think you should buy it and do all your outfit shots on it.

Okay, I love Elf. The fact that you watched it just makes me love you even more.

I ventured out to the shopping district of New Haven, which includes a J Crew, and American Apparel, an Apple store, and an Urban Outfitters. And that's about it. So no crazy crowds at all. Yay. Black Friday shoppers are nuts.

I think we actually won by not participating in the black Friday festivities! Not sure what has happened to me but I did not purchase a thing this weekend! Victory is mine.

I'm so jealous you didn't get out of bed until 5 on Black Friday! I could totally use one of those days!

TheChambrayCountess said...

I was definitely not in line to shop on Fri and I am glad you took advantage of the most advantageous spot on Black Friday (your bed)!

Annie said...

haha sounds like a great weekend all around. I definitely did not go anywhere near a store on Friday. I was SO excited to be in warm weather and away from a computer for 4 days.. I also slacked with photos and a post today in general! Just landed this morning so hopefully will be more energetic tomorrow! xo

I agree that black friday has become distasteful. It really brings out the worst in people! That inflatable car is pretty hilarious. And maybe a bit of a nuisance for those ocd about their house. Hah!

I can relate to your victory- Carrie. I've been on a self-imposed shopping ban this month and survived- only just!

Lori said...

Trev told me about that freak ~ can you imagine wanting something that bad and then get arrested and not get it at all ~ all I can say to that *itch is ha ha ~ serves you right! I am thankful that Canada has not jumped on the madness bandwagon ~ we are having more sales here but it's not crazy like down there. My shopping is almost done ~ one more trip to the mall and a few of our local shops and I am done ~ stick a fork in me. xo

Johanna said...

Holy cow...this Black Friday stuff was equivalent to the Missoni craze. Keep me out of it...thank you interwebs!

The Key To Chic said...

I agree about avoiding the madness. I checked out the mall at midnight, but didn't buy anything. I wanted to see how it was, and indeed, it was too crowded for me. Online shopping rules!

all i have to say is that my husband's nephew had better love us forever. we either waited on line outside to get in or inside on line to get this damn netbook. a total of 5 hrs taken from my life. it was a bit much but i bet i will do it again next year, haha.

Kara Endres said...

I wasn't planning on doing any shopping (as always) but I went to a thrift store and vintage store and scored two designer pieces for nothing. (And since they're not huge stores or the mall, I luckily didn't have to deal with any crazies.)

i own Felicity DVDS and watch them every fall...i just have to. SWEATERS! Hey...

I went a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs on black friday if you know what I mean. But in my defense they were all things I had been wanting for a long time, and extremely on sale. I did all the math in a blog post and actually saved around 60%. Oh, and I bought things for other people too. So obviously, that justifies it. (Err... this is what I tell myself at least.)

LyddieGal said...

it sounds like you had a pretty awesome thanksgiving weekend, and wow, that walmart story is appalling. You definitely nailed it, it is a way to make a holiday about being thankful for all the wonderful things we have and the family we get to be with and turning it into a gross example of greed and excess.

but i'd be down with an inflatable car. what do you do with it? go sledding?

your thoughts of black friday... music to my ears... i have "those relatives" who literally [*right after the meal... before clearing of the table... before tackling the MASSIVE kitchen mess, before dessert(!)] stood up & declared that they were leaving.

they HAD to get to walmart a.s.a.p.

Your Thanksgiving (minus the gross out story which I had to gloss over) sounded perfect! How did I know you weren't in the amongst the masses lined up outside some random Target somewhere. You and your funky self would just not fit into that picture :)
