Rebirth of a Saturday

Once upon a time on Saturdays the Chef and I would cook brunch and later stroll the neighborhood for dessert, or maybe go to the beach.  At times we would indulge in a mid-afternoon cocktail followed by a movie--perhaps even two.  Somewhere in between we would grab some outfit pictures for le blog.  My how times have changed.  Now Saturdays look like this:  struggle to get out of bed by 11am after going to bed at 4am after closing the restaurant.  Brunch?  Oh hell no.  See that peach in the refrigerator?  Yep there's brunch.  What was that?  You wanted dessert?  How about the Dove chocolate bar with almonds?  Okay don't mind if I do. Something to drink?  Wheel by Coffee Bean and hope there's no line or I'm s.o.l. because we have to grab last minute ingredients for dishes that sold out last night and the place closes at 3pm.  Screeeeeeech.  Hey at least we're in it together, right?  Truth be told we look at each other and bust up laughing regularly.  The days of wearing matching socks are long gone.

This Saturday was spent in a whole new world.  Outfit pictures?  Done in a warehouse surrounded by various eye-opening goodies.

Box of Chardonnay?  Now that you mention, it is kind of hot outside.
*heaves into cart*
What the wha?  50 individually wrapped bags of Cheetos or Fritos for $10.98!?
Britney? Britney Spears?  Can you hear me??
Carmageddon or no carmageddon girlfriend would have been there in moments
for a piece of that action.
Woman wanders aisles forgetting what on earth she's even looking for.
Is this over yet?  Death to fluorescent bulbs.
Once back in the vehicle they realize there are zero close-ups of the outfit.
The bf grabs the camera and, while at a red light, looks over and snaps a picture of gf's new necklace
while she downs the box of Chardonnay from the passenger seat (I kid, I kid...on the chardonnay only).
And yes Carey has the necklace too--I swear our brains are on the same wavelength sometimes.
Almost forgetting to highlight Inspector Shoeseau's latest conquest, woman grabs camera
and snaps picture of Joie bootie purchased at more than 50% off mere weeks ago.
Never give up the dream.  Even if you have to call 23 stores to find it.

Other random thoughts:  Last Thursday evening I witnessed the worst behavior in the grocery store.  A woman my mother's age walked up next to me at the Rainier cherry stand and began randomly picking and eating cherries out of the individually pre-wrapped bags. We're not talking one or two cherries (that would be bad enough) oh no I mean like a five minute marathon of at least half a bag.  Finally I looked over and stared until she stopped before I stomped off.  Next thing I know I've forgotten to get dill so I have to walk back by the cherry stand where guess who's back?  Hands all up in the cherries, eating away, and she's brought her husband back for dinner.  They were spitting cherry pits into their hands and burying them beneath the bags.  Double fisting.  I made a huge scenario of stopping in my tracks so he looked up and saw he was spotted.  Even under the spotlight of my withering glare he didn't care.  He was at a smorgasbord and nothing was going to stand in his way.  A massive eye roll and head shake later I make my way back to the front of the store where he and his looney tune wife have followed and are standing behind me waiting to pay for 3 things---none of which are cherries.  Why would they need to pay for that?  They basically just stood there and stole them in plain view of everyone in the store.  What are people thinking about?
Demo of proper cherry selecting etiquette.
Note:  hands on outside of bag.  Word.

I swear this used to be a fashion blog.

I thought the Crazy Couponing people were the only ones to watch out for in the grocery store. Now I know I have to watch out for the Crazy Cherry people, too. More reasons for me to avoid grocery shopping.

Well I happen to like the little turn this would be fashion blog has taken - food and fashion, well really what else is there in life? (For me, books but that about does it!!)

This all goes to prove that some people are creeps and that life happens even when you are well dressed.

OK, while I am envious of your new shoes, I adore the picture of you staring at the box of cheetos. Hope you had a great weekend lady.

Too funny. You even make warehouse shopping fun. Can you believe those nut jobs? Guess the cherries weren't in their budget. Some people have so much nerve. xo

Dude, I LOVE your busy crazy new life just going for it. It's the best. I can totally relate.

And you look completely fantastic bustling around the aisles getting things done. Lookin' hot in that necklace, sista.

Just watch out the outside two "wings" don't fall lopsided; I'm on the hunt for a tiny silver ring in this joint. And I like your boots better than mine. The horrors!

good luck. hang in there. I can't wait for more restaurant tidbits---

And E says hi!

ahh its like when crazy city people stop on the side of the road run into a field and start grabbing fruit off trees. ITS CALLED STEALING PEOPLE! stealing from a farmer. who works pretty damn hard.

I gotta hand it to you, this new lifestyle can't be easy but you are embracing it with arms open. I for one, love the outfit shots in the restaurant warehouse building!

Hot and sexy (well I think you're pretty cute!) outfit shots in a restaurant depot and then another shot in what appears to be a Henry's?! Girl after my own heart!!!!

Food followed by fashion for me! I always forget to take outfit shots before heading out for the night - food on the brain!

See this is you running crazy errands looking super chic. Me on Saturday running errands? Super thin Red Sox tee, jeans, Converse, and hair frizzing outtothere in the heat. Yup. Feeling schluby, but I can't up my weekend game until fall. The heat just takes it out of me, I can't deal.

Carrie, you are hilarious. I just imagine you in front of those cherries eating ppl. Yeah, what are they thinking? I think they do NOT think.

Okay, seriously. You had to tease me with those boots!! I had it in my head to add a pair of tan ankle boots to my fall wishlist (for cute tight and dress looks) and yours are perfect.

That cherry situation was just eww. Nobody wants somebody's else germy hands and body fluid on a good bag of cherries. I wondered what would have happened if you told the store manager.

Courtney Erin said...

Dude, you gotta send me a case of wine! And maybe some Cheetos. And those people who steal cherries sound straight up messed. Yikes.

Whhaat? And to think that some people don't wash their food when they bring it home from the grocery store! Haha. Who actually does that at the grocery store anyways? And even better, who does it with pride? Haha..your stories crack me up. I mean, the best way is to have been at the beach, had a few cocktails, purchased a bag of cookies when you get to the store and THEN walk around the store to shop for dinner.

But, I do love love love your outfit...especially the shoes!

That necklace is outta this world cool!

i got booties like those from Zara a few years ago babes! ...

OMG i'm having a "white trash" themed party - wine in a box MUST!

and WTH man with the cherries - pay the $5.99lb like everyone else!!!!!!

i went to a carnival this weekend down the shore - and it was ALL locals - i coukldn't tell if they had baby bumps or beer bellies but everyone was young and had like 4 kids already - i was like WHAT i'm not drinking there water!

That is SO FUNNY! I believe that when the cherries are loose and you are to place them in your own produce bag, it is appropriate to try one to see how they taste. But not if it involves opening up a pre-sealed bag. What freaks!

Ha ha cute post! LOVE your booties. I totally would have stared at the cherry eaters and maybe even told on them like a four year old.

Loving this day in-the-life post. You two are hilarious (and I love that outfit). Also, thank you for giving the cherry woman disapproving stares - those people need help.

FRANKIE HEARTS FASHION said...

Seriously? I am appalled and grossed out...who does that?! I would have stood there with my mouth gaped open too! And um...those boots? MAJOR score. Love them. xo

Oh. My. Word. I have no idea how I would have reacted! I think I might have said something. Sick.

I saw a woman walk out of a church with her two toddlers yesterday, one of which apparently had to go to the bathroom, because she pulled down his shorts in the middle of the parking lot and let him go pee into the nearest bush (facing the busy street that I was stopped at, may I add). Couldn't she have just walked 15 steps back into the church to use the restroom like any normal civilized person?? SERIOUSLY!

your cherry story killed me!

i want to be the cherry sheriff and whoop ass on anyone that tries to munch and not pay. i am now daydreaming of names i could call the cherry bandits, and awful things i could yell at them.

Generally, your posts make me smirk whilst sitting on my couch but this was a full blown guffaw. I've decided this is your funniest post ever. Especially the part about you drinking the box of chard at the stop light. Are you my twin?

First..love the shirt dress and the boots, my fav outfit so far!! 2. I never look that good at Costco, note to step it up 3. I give the withering look of disapproval all the time, sometimes followed by a head shake of disgust...sadly it's rarely effective anymore. People have become immune to shame.

Weirdos are everywhere. Sometimes I wonder how we even function as a society at all. Another excellent reason to wash all your fruit before you eat it.

outfit photos in the discount warehouse? too funny. costco is my least favorite place ever.

But awesome score on the booties. sometimes you just have to put in that extra effort for the big payoff.

I hope you get one of those relaxing weekends again soon!

And can't believe the story about the cherry thieves. People are so ridiculous!!

That is crazy. Recently a couple was arrested at Giant Eagle for trying to steal grapes, and they had a stolen car. The cops ran the plates, and then a crazy car chase ensued. The link is below.

hahaha I can'r believe people do that. It's like they think if you eat it inside the store and get rid of the evidence, it's not really stealing.

I'm loving your outfit and the photos.. but I'm totally obsessed with your boots. I've been looking for some just like that but haven't found 'the ones' yet. Gonna have to check those out.

Oh gosh, Dave likes to shop at Costco, I think it's the MOST terrifying, overwhelming experience ever. No one needs 25 lbs of snacks at once. Sigh.

And nothing bothers me more than those who eat at a grocery store.

I'm riled up.
