And Suddenly It's Summer

All summer long I have longed for summer - yeah get there, because it sure didn't. I'm usually out of control busy with work during the summer and don't get to soak in as much as I'd like.  This year my schedule was much more manageable and I had dreams of warm days, cute dresses, cuter cover-ups, endless sandals and homemade ice cream treats.  Well here's to a big fat that never happened.  So yesterday as I was toiling away with a million things to do for the first time this season you'll never guess what happened?  We hit 90 degrees here at the beach.  Here's a big ol' middle finger - at what I'm not sure, but I just feel like throwing up a bird in utter frustration.

Try as I might to come up with a way to escape it was a no can-do situation.  So around 6:30 I threw in the towel before hanging myself with it, tousled the old wreck of a lid and threw on a couple of the many items that have been hollering to get out of the closet.  Ashleigh?  You out there?  I'm sure you recognize the skirt...sniff sniff.  It was so great to take in a real summer evening where you didn't need a jacket, a sweatshirt, a scarf, pants and socks.  No exaggeration.

I couldn't even be bothered to deal with a cuter shoe.
It's SoCal at the beach.  It's a rainbow flip flop.  It's my pasty skin :(
Hello no sleeves.  Hello vest, I love you.
RIP Martin+Osa.
The sun's going down.  I still don't need a fur coat.  Where am I?
Somewhere warm. Yay! It's here!
And too quickly it was over.
But hopefully it'll be sticking around for awhile.

Do you ever just feel like the universe is playing a big ol' trick on you? Not today universe, not today.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure the universe is playing a trick on me, like, a lot.

Glad you got to enjoy summer weather though, hope it sticks around a little longer. It'll be here in Alabama until....November or so if you need a vay-cay.

I always miss the London summer! If I come to London in June/July, the sun will come out in August. This time I came in August and apparently all the heat and sun had already been and gone - right now it's about 18ºC which is chilly enough for tights and cardigans! :(

Oh Carrie ~ I laughed out loud and snorted at the same time!! I just find it ironic that it has been warmer in the north than in Cali!! We have had a beautiful summer (rub, rub) and my tan is bronzy brown ~ I know, don't hate me ~ but thank you for the laugh this morning! xo

Olivia RPS said...

summer's all gone here :'(
it was so lovely in june and july, 30 degrees and all that niceness, then it was cruelly snatched away and now its barely 20 :(
but yes, at least i had a bit o' france to tan me up :) though i still had to have a cardigan to hand :(
its such a shame, whenever holidays start the weather stops. :(
oh well, i'm holding out for some surprise heat soon, i'm glad you had a nice warm evening :)

Oh the universe can be so cruel like that!!
But I'm so happy you finally got a taste of the 90's (I awoke to a surprisingly chilly 71 this morning).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope the real summer decides to stick around!

You know what? I thought that it was warm in Cali all the time?!!! What?! What was I thinking, right?

I'm so glad you had a nice day, my love. You look adorable as always, and I think those shoes are perfecto!

Big kisses from the east coast to the west coast :)

I wish I could send you some of my summer. I'm so over it right now. Longing for fall!!

Lilacandgrey said...

Doesn't it usually get hotter in Cali around Sept. and Oct.? Maybe it will be hot for you when we are all freezing our butts off!

PS. I totally feel like the universe is playing tricks on me!

I'm glad it's finally warming up. We had the same thing happen where I live last year. Kinda puts you in a sour mood. Hopefully, it will stick around for sometime. Everyone needs warm days/nights, cute dresses, flip-flops, and lots of ice cream. It's what summer is all about!

You live in SoCal, surely it's meant to be warm all year round like in QLD where my parents live.

C'mon summer, stick around for a few more weeks, before you come to spend many months with MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I love your top! I hope the weather sticks around for you! And if it does send some of it up here because the weather has cheated on me, too : ( Summer here lasted a month maybe.

I think the universe does it to me a lot. It teases you with something you want and right as you're about to get it, it snatches it all away. But maybe I'm exaggerating.

Here in Tennessee we've been longing for temps to drop down to 90 degrees. Crazy, but true! It has been sooo miserable. I'm glad you finally got to see some warmer weather, though. And I love your rainbow flip flops!

SUMMER!!!! Yes, that's exactly how I felt all summer. There's this big joke being played on all of us in Southern California and I don't get it. Nor do I like it one bit. But yesterday was different. The birds were chirping, the sky was blue, and the sun was shining. And I was happy. I've decided I'm totally fair weather (I actually decided that years ago when I moved to San Francisco in July and wanted to jump off the Golden Gate from the lack of summer/coldest weather I had ever experienced). Your outfit is the perfect beach attire for a proper summer and I'm glad it finally made an appearance. I have high hopes that we'll have at least a few more days like this before Fall sets in.

I love you too, striped vest!
I am on the other end of the spectrum (and literally other end of the continent...) where we are experiencing a record string of days over 90*. There must be a middle ground! ack!

I would much rather have your weather right now! Lately it's been days in the upper 90s here. I hate it. But at least it's cool and rainy today. I'm so ready for fall!

LMAO!! YEEEES!! I have felt this way ALL SUMMER!! Why oh why has summer passed by us in So Cal? Is it the universes way of telling us we are way too spoiled?? LOL I actually was kind of pissed b/c I got on a plane to DC yesterday and as I'm heading to the airport I was thinking it was a cruel joke that summer decided to arrive as I was leaving for a week!!

I often feel as if the universe is playing a trick on me. Like those days when it's hot as anything and the sun is shining, so I wear a romper only to find myself freezing within an hour because the sun has completely disappeared. Frustration abound!

LOVE your bag. And your sleeveless sweater. Gah! Your style is phenom!! :)

Great outfit! I love the flowers in the pictures too. I hope you have some more heat. I heard it is going to start cooling down again here, but maybe that will just be here. Hopefully SoCal will stick with some heat for a while!

hahahaha. "not today, universe." wish i woulda started out today with that. :P

sure sounds like you guys have gotten the rough end of this weird west coast summer. it was 90 here in Seattle yesterday, and today it's barely 70. i'm not gonna lie though - with no A/C, and no time to hit the water, it's just nooo picnic in that kind of weather.

here's to a nice long indian summer for ya! :D

A big ol middle finger- you crack me up Carrie- I have seriously dipped my feet in the ocean only once this summer- preferring the comfort of the pool-my monkeys seem to think cold water is fine- which I guess it is if you are running around with a boogie board and don't care that snot is running down your face!

Sparrow - you are so welcome! i love to drop by!! hey i just noticed we're both birds. well i'm a cat and a bird. what's that a cird? a catbi? i need to stop now.

Claire - thx so much. it's so conflicting and causes a lot of self-evaluation that i've never had before. yikes. you are very kind.xo

Ren-omg snot. ahahahaha!! it's a kid's life!

It's been freezing here in Sydney, and then I went to Darwin last week for work and was hit with 31 degree heat. Not sure what that is in Farenheit, but let's just say it was utter bliss. It was horrible coming back to Sydney, but luckily the sun is out today! :)

Man, the big ol' trick life's been playing me these days has to do with internet! One minute I am working, reading blogs, etc. The next minute I have nothing. So this comment is probably a day late here! I love your outfit! And that you are finally warm!!! Rainbow sandals seem to go perfectly with that top methinks!

Roxy Te said...

oh I love your ring! I've been rockin' the summer vests too! And scarves!

Ah!!! I love this outfit. And yay for warm weather! You should visit the southeast for the summer...you'll never again wish for warm weather. It's humid and awful. I'm drooling over the outfit though :)

Bren said...

Loving that you went out in your Rainbow's and pasty skin! Ahahahahahaha! What is up with So. Cal this year?! Total identity crisis! I feel like because we've had such a messed up Summer, our Fall/Winter is going to be hot! I just have this vision of everyone wearing their cute Fall clothes, and we're still in flip flops. (well, that does sort of happen every year) I guess we are spoiled. :)

"So around 6:30 I threw in the towel before hanging myself with it,"

haha. man I'm finally getting a break to read blogs again. And comments, too... there's a hilarious one up there. See if we're thinking about the same one. it's so... demanding.

glad you got some warmth. you should have asked, I'd have bottled up NY's pit-stinking sweltering crap air and sent it along for you to bathe in.
