Riding Shotgun

There we were Saturday afternoon, on the open road weaving around in traffic trying to figure out where the hell we were going when I looked at the clock and saw 3:55pm.  Dude.  We're not gonna make it.  Should we just turn around and say whatever with it?

We kept moving, I figured out how to read a map (really not my strong point and probably why I'm a  self-proclaimed wanderer) and we got where we were going, but in my mind I can still see 3:55 on the dashboard clock. I heard a reporter say this weekend, 'This will be one of those events you look back on and remember exactly what you were doing when it happened.' The this being Whitney Houston passing away.  I'm not going to wax on like she was my best friend, although in my 20's I'm pretty sure I thought she was given how much playtime her music got.  My girls and I used to blast out I'm Every Woman like no other.  Damn.  No more Whitney.

What a tragedy.

And no I'm not going to get into her handstands at the Beverly Hilton.  Let's just remember her as the legend she was.

Before hearing the news we had a rad day.  Decent weather, roamed the streets of the fabric district, I pretended not to be scared of the drug dealer with the shopping cart, took in a Vanessa Mooney sample sale and laughed like a hyena when a guy screamed at the sight of a full-grown Bull Mastiff entering the elevator as he was exiting.  Outfit?  Uh, sorry. This is all I got.  In-car chic is the new black?

And here's Whitney Houston. She really was every woman.

Oh Whitney. I swear she made every young girl in the 90's want to be a singer. Such an inspiration.

We were at dinner when I saw it on my twitter. I may or may. It have broken into song. "...I wanna feel the heat from somebody. With somebody who loves me...."

Such a classic song from a lady with a lovely voice and a tragic life.

p.s. i'm with you - awesome dresses from Mary K. for Topshop but the prices are a bit too steep.

Car chic is the new awesome, esp. when rockin' M&O (RIP). And what a shame to lose Whitney. A damn shame. The radio played the longest Whitney remix I've ever heard in my life yesterday and it was freakin' awesome. I wish we could praise and appreciate people more while they're living...

Yeah, Whitney's passing was really sad, I found out via Instagram- even sadder. Love the necklaces. And love the fact that whenever you rock the M+O, you include the RIP. :)

She had such a tragic death and an intermittenly tragic life.
This was a very beautifully written post!
I hope all is well and happy Valentine's Day!

I felt a bit of guilt that I didn't react in a big way to Whitney's death. I feel for her family, of course, but unfortunately I think I'm getting inured to celebs who die "of unknown causes." It is sad. But my goodness.

Glad you had a good day. I found out about Whitney's death the way I find out about everything these days: facebook & twitter.

Happy Valentine's day!

aww it sounds like a rad day! i love that you used the word rad. i use it very occasionally in real life. i also love that you are a wanderer because you aren't so good at reading maps. while i don't want to rip up my map-reading skills, i will say i really don't like (feel hopelessly self-conscious) looking all turista and whipping it out on random street corners. i guess smartphones have kinda solved that problem tho...

happy valentine's day to you!

dying at 48 is just nuts. just NUTS! the fame, the money, the fast living, the drugs, and the early deaths are pretty shitty. it happens way too often!

christ i sound like a grandma! but it is sad.

on a cheerier note, you look really pretty and i love your boots and your jewelry!

p.s. i get lost constantly. i always seem to think i can WING IT, and it rarely works. lol

I remember blasting How Will I Know while driving around in my first car ~ so so sad but her music will live on.

So sad about Whitney. No one could sing like her. I kind of hate how they keep talking about the handstands, sweaty hair, etc. Obviously, she had problems. Give the family some respect and the media should stop dragging all of her dirty laundry through the mud. Death deserves dignity. xo

It's so sad about Whitney : ( All these celebrities are passing away. What's going on?? I have the urge to watch The Bodyguard right now. She was amazing.

I still can't believe it..I got chills when Dylan told me. Just so, so sad. By far, 1 of my favorite tapes growing up. The lesser infamous "I'm your baby tonight" really sticks out in my head. Hope she's at peace now..
