Save, Save Some More, or Splurge?

My love of Isabel Marant is no mystery.  I've sung her praises on the blog and beyond to anyone who would listen.  I even scored a leather vest of hers once at, oh, 70% off resulting in me not sleeping for a week due to sheer elation.  It may or may not rest comfortably with me nightly in bed.

In the spring when I first spotted Kate Bosworth and Katie (sorry Tom she'll never be just Kate to me) Holmes in Isabel Marant's Dicker booties my heart skipped 10 beats.  I knew they would cost a pretty penny (at least to my wallet) and that I would likely not be able to land a pair as her hottest items aren't always so accessible.  Imagine the shock and awe that took place when I spotted this very Dicker bootie recently in Barneys.  Internal mayhem ensued.
Glorious aren't they?
And only $615 + tax.
Gulp

Now I realize that there are people out there with money to burn on shoes but, sadly, I'm not one of them. *Cue 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'*

So now for the good news.  A month or so ago I was out and about when I spotted a very similar bootie for a fraction of the cost.  Feast your eyes on this:
Looks really similar, right?
Check them here -- did you pass out at the price difference?

I get a lot of comments about my Joie booties (seen here) that are now completely sold out, so I was super excited to be able to find another affordable version to share with you.  You name it:  with dresses, leggings, shorts--these are great to have in your shoe arsenal.  If you're looking for an even better deal and don't care about real leather then brace yourself for what's coming next:

Um hel-loooo!!
AND THEY COME IN GREY, TOO.
Get yours here at less than $35!

It's a great day at the bird.  Shoes that won't break the bank are on the way (even though I still love the ones that do break the bank) and there's only one day left til Friday.

So spill it--are you going to grab a pair of either of the less expensive versions? I think I'm going to lose my beans and get the grey pair.  At that price, why not? Yahoooo!

This is dangerous. A selection of shoes in my price range (you can guess which pairs) and I can buy online. Hmm.
I flipped through all of TWO August magazines today and it resulted in 3 online orders, 1 trip to the drugstore, watching 4 eBay auctions, and waking up Jared at 1am to inform him I need to get to Ulta tomorrow. NEED. I'm basically terrified of what's going to happen when my eye is 100% and the September magazines start to arrive.
Send help.

Those Marant boote are to die for...but the price tag is rather painful. There are so many good versions of this style...but my usual addage is: you get what you pay for. The question i are they are a life-long keeper? In which case you should invest if pennies allowed... Lou x

We all love a deal and you are the finder of the best ones Carrie! I cannot wait to see you strutting your stuff in them. xo

Carrie, I've felt like I need a pair of these boots for fall, I have no idea why, but I'll just blame Kate Bosworth. :)
I've been eyeballing those Old Navy ones for a few weeks, but in the flat version that laces up. I'm being cheap and waiting for them to have a good sale/discount.

Nice!! You found some amazing alternatives to the super crazy expensive ones.

I want a pair but I'm not sure how often I'd wear them, haha. I have some other boots that I LOVE and I hardly wear those... XD Shame on me!!

I think putting a $600 price tag on the boots is just cruel. It's like saying that only celebrities can have them.
Nice find with the $35 pair, definitely my style.

Safe on cute shoes. Oh yes!!

who CAN afford to spend $615 on shoes?! probs no one I know. Love your fashion finds for less!

those 2 are some great alternatives to a very expensive shoe. i need to start buying lottery tickets again... lol

Last option, for sure! You could really splurge and buy a pair in each color ;)

i TRY my hardest to find the "no name" brand - but i can never do it - i buy it but i never wore anything that i bought at a cheap place - so for me i'd splurge if i KNEW i'd be in them forever!

I have to admit, if I could at all afford it I would get the item I really have my eye on or forget the whole thing. I've tried to get things that look similar (and these all really are dead ringers!) but it has never turned out well. Either the thing falls apart, or is uncomfortable, or every time I wear it I sigh a little and think of what I really wanted and how this isn't it.

It is very possible that I'm just not very good at finding suitable alternatives though. But especially with shoes I tend to splurge. Shoes usually last so much longer than other items and they always fit so I tend to pay the price.

This totally surprised me, as I hate Old Navy... but low and behold when I clicked on my favorite pair (number 3).... guess where they were from?

i'm sorry but i could never justify 600 buckaroos on shoes! it's just..a force larger than myself i guess. so i would totally pick the second cheaper pair! i like the little tab they have on the sides! :)

I love boots like this. When I was 19 I had some black ones that I wore continuously, now I have some gray denim ones. Such a fun boot!

I'm a sucker for a gray (grey?) bootie. I have a sad pair in my closet needing the heel to be repaired. but these... these make me yearn for Fall even more!

I've been online stalking Free People's version of this boot for $220. It has a little bit of fringe on the side and I'm trying to decide if I'd wear them often enough to justify the price tag. But now next time I'm at the mall I'll be stopping in Old Navy to feel those boots! Fashion with very little money commitment? I like!

love! i'd go with the mid-price version... they are all fab, but i feel like the cheaper ones would wear out too quickly.

no joke bought the old navy ones in tan last night! how can you not buy them for that price?! I put in a code and ended up scoring them for $29! Can you say STEAL?!

I think I actually like the cheapie pairs better-the heel is a little more flattering! What a score, and an amazing birdy day!

Hooray for great deals!! I love them! I have a similar pair in black from Aldo that I got on mega clearance awhile back. I wear htem all the time and have already had the soles repaired once!

YAY for finding look-a-likes. I happen to love these boots. I can see myself rocking the look although I probably won't look half as awesome as you wearing them.

Gah... I just bought the taupe dicker boots and they are coming tomorrow, and I am terrified that they will arrive when I'm at work and someone will steal them. In which case, I would have to cut a bitch. They've been my dream shoes forever. I love your Joie boots too.

Simply Loved These Boots Collection, Especially Last one seems perfect for me!! The Price of these boots are also Good!!

I love the mid-price pair...this style just doesn't seem completely timeless - for me, at least. If I'm going to drop $600 on shoes, I would go for a more classic style that I'll wear forever. Not to mention, one look at that lovely taupe suede and I have visions of a single smudge or the indigo from my jeans rubbing off on them...for $600 that would have me crying!

Kara Endres said...

Oooh! If I didn't just buy those ankle boots (that match yours), I'd totally go for the Steve Madden ones in the middle....
