Flashes of Fall

I was talking to my mom on the phone whilst gathering the mail the other day, and inadvertently set the stack to the side only to later discover the holy grail had arrived.  That's what we here at the bird refer to as the latest Anthropologie and Free People catalogues.  No matter how e-oriented society might become I still like the feel of a magazine or book in my hands.  I like to be able to touch the paper, hold a picture up to my eyes to take a closer look--sometimes even just smell the pages, one of my favorite scents ever.

Even though we're in the heat of summer and I'm totally loving it, there is that age old training that kicks in at this time of year:  Back to School.  Instinctively my mind will begin to think of corduroy, button down shirts, blazers, plaid, pleated skirts, sweater vests and leather coats--even though I've been out of school for a few *cough* years now.  For a brief moment today I let myself peruse the Anthropologie catalogue and begin pondering my fall wardrobe.  Anthro does such an incredible job with their catalogues and this one is no exception.  Its pages are laced with hints of the past and beautiful vintage-esque clothing, both of which are right up my alley these days.  Sometimes I swear their people are reading my mind.

Here are just a few images that are really speaking to me from this month's catalogue:
I love everything about this picture.  From the way her hair is styled (love squared) to the
beautiful blouse and skirt.  At first glance I actually thought the skirt was sequined
and it got me incredibly excited for this duo...perhaps it was just what I wanted to see.
Note to self:  keep eyes peeled for sequined pencil skirt.  Does this exist?
Speaking of sequins examine this dress
If I can make it two weeks without jumping off my wallet for this mother it'll be a miracle.
And don't even get me started on that little handknit shrug.
I'm not sure what I want more:  the wallpaper or the skirt.
It hits below the knee and is wispy and gorgeous for fall...
for all you lucky people who actually get to experience a real fall season.

Have you given any thought to fall or are you still with me in summer?  I'm doing my best to linger here, but the onslaught of fall catalogues 2011 sure isn't making it easy.

I am still on summer time. I have given some thought to wearing boots and light layers but here in So Cal I hope it won't be until October. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale always gets me thinking about Fall waaaay before I am ready. And YES I have seen sequin pencil skirts (last fall) and will keep an eye out for you!

I am constantly thinking about Fall specially after the nice little heat wave we experienced in DC. And Fall is my favorite season.
Thanks for sharing these pictures. I think retailers are really doing a great job with their cookbooks and catalogs for Fall, like JCrew and Madewell, I want it all.

I was all about hanging on to summer until this past week. Now I'm over it. Bring on a change of season (that we don't get in AL).
I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it? Did I actually send it? I don't know what's going in my drug induced haze most of the time. (It got sent SOMEWHERE, hopefully you got it...)

I wish we had an Anthro here. I always here about it and the styling is just beautiful. It's funny to read about preparing for autumn, when I'm getting ready for spring/summer.

The anthro and free people catalogs? Oh trouble!!! You're right it's so much nicer to look at a magazine than to browse online. It's got a complete different feel. Now due to this post I'm about the go and see if I can sign up for some catalogs!

Can't wait to see what you end up buying & how you rock it!

Browsing through Anthro was one of my favourite shopping pastimes when we were in USA earlier this year, I so wish we had it here, its the type of store that makes my heart sing.

As for fall fashion, Im pining for summer.

I seriously can't decide which one I love the most. It's not fair to any if them to play favorites. I'll say I love them all equally.

That sequin dress with the knit shrug is amazing!!! Love love love!
I am procrastinating in summer right now. Fall will come soon enough though...time flies when you're having fun! (Still having dreams about a certain pair of Joie booties no matter how much I procrastinate!)

Anthro does such a great job of pattern mixing. I'm always finding new ways to wear a florals with stripes or dots with bold geometric shapes.

Summer just FINALLY arrived here. Like, not kidding, just in the last week. So I feel a little guilty about looking towards fall fashion - I haven't even had a chance to wear summer stuff! But then I had to get the same catalogues and I want want want it all!

There's nothing I love more than back to school-riding boots, cable knits and No 2 pencils are my crack. And since SF is always back to school weather (the kind that was impossible to find growing up on the East Coast until October), I love the fall catalogs more than ever!

this time of summer always has me thinking "time for new fall clothes." a girl's gotta spend her birthday money wisely, amirite?

speaking of which i just bought a few new anthro tops, and it's l-o-v-e.

also, am i a weirdo because i save all the old anthro catalogs? i feel like i'm going to use them in some sort of crafty fashion, but really they are just stacked up in a big pile. sigh.

I'm trying not to think about fall but it still creeps into my head every now and then (like now) and I know it's just around the corner. It's just that we've had such a rainy and cold summer it feels like summer is only beginning now, two months too late! : ( I can't wait to see what you buy out of these catalogues!

A lot of people are posting about fall fashion and it's getting me really excited :)

it is SO FRAKKING hot that all i can think of is summer right now! lol.

and boy i could tell you a lot about anthropologie. but i don't want to spoil the fantasy here, so i'll spare you. i'll limit my commentary to say that their catalogues and window displays are amazing. gorgeous.

p.s. thanks so much for "liking" me. i know it is lame and all, but the facebook helps and all (EVEN THO I HATE IT). lol

hip hip gin gin said...

Oh yeah Anthropologie definitely has my number!

And I am totally done with summer. Done. It happens every August, I pretty much wake up one day, despise the hot weather, and start my fall countdown. Can't possibly come soon enough.

I'm so not ready for fall, but I wouldn't mind a little tiny bit of a cool down. I'm excited for all the September magazines though!! xo

i really cant wait for fall. i am so sick of summer weather haha

kimbirdy said...

gorgeous! but i'm still totally in the midst of summer. i haven't had warm weather in SO long that i'm not even close to being done with summer dresses and other skin-showing clothes. plus, this is LA! it's going to be hot for many more weeks. as pretty as the fall stuff is, it does make me sad that the stores are already full of fall lines. i still need me some short shorts people!

Lori said...

I am still in summer mode since most of ours so far has consisted of rain rain and more rain!! Back to school was always one of my favorite times of the year. The trip to Woolco and pushing the cart around the school supplies ~ wanting ~ yearning for the newest and coolest stuff. The clothes were next ~ one new outfit which consisted of wide leg Levi jeans and a cool new sweater ~ ahhh memories!!

Megan said...

OMG can it just be fall already?! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that first shirt (and the whole photo). If it wasn't ridiculously priced, I would be buying it right now. Ahhhhh you've created a monster.

I always hold onto summertime and summer dressing as long as I can. I feel like in late September I let myself get psyched for fall clothes.
Did you see those shoes in the last Anthro shot? Yummy for sure.

LyddieGal said...

As much as i'm programed to start thinking about and wishing for fall right now, I have found that with a lot of hard work, I can block out fall for the next three weeks and savor as much summer as possible. it is my favorite season after all, and I think a little piece of me dies when that first genuinely cold day comes and I am forced into wearing things like tights and cardigans again.

I really like that tie-neck blouse in the top photo. Kim on Anthroholic blogged about it recently and I fell in love with it.

I agree: there's something really great about having a catalog physically in your hands and being able to circle the stuff you like, fold down corners of pages, etc. I'm an avid online shopper, but my heart will always belong to paper catalogs.
