The Corner Restaurant - Update

I'm just going to begin by outing myself:  on Wednesday night after 30 Day Shredding I went to Sonic, ate a Chicago dog, 3/4 of a New York dog, two onion rings and half of a small unsweetened peach iced tea.  It was bloody good and I deserved it seeing as almost every day this week has been a living hell of saw noise beginning at 7am.  Last evening I took a spin over to the Chef's restaurant to eyeball progress (read:  make sure no one had snatched my Asian artifacts) and somehow ended up with a margarita in front of me at our favorite Mexican restaurant not long after.  A preview of Friday, if you will.  Next up:  Days 9 and 10 of the Shred done in one day to stay on track.

Hopefully on Monday I will have some sort of positive living situation scenario to report.  A girl can dream. In the meantime here's a little picture preview of what's going on with construction at The Corner (if you're interested follow me on facebook where I'll be posting more pics).  It's a hot mess, but has come so far in just a week.

Here's one of the Chef and my dad in front of the restaurant a few weeks ago...
so homesick right now and wish I could go home for the weekend.
Anyway.  Examine the roof.
And here's what the roof looked like last night at 7 o'clock.  Crazy, huh?
Now remember last week's post showed the booths.
Welp, sayonara ripped vinyl booths.
Here's a quick picture of bar status.
So happy he's decided to keep this hand-painted geisha (- lovely woman?) on the ceiling in the bar.
I think the community will appreciate it seeing as the restaurant has been such a landmark.
The picture doesn't do it justice - poor lighting and not a fancy camera,
but I'll get better ones of her along way.
You had to know it was only a matter of time before I made myself at home.
Here's hoping a little of this splashes your way this weekend.

Thanks so much for hanging in there with me this week.  It was a wild one with work, working at home, the construction and all the stress from dealing with the landlord over moving upstairs or not.  I'm sparing a lot of the dirty details, but let's just say it was not pleasant and my nerves are shot.  I could barely find time to think much less visit your blogs.  sigh  Here's to getting this situation resolved and either moving or staying put for now.  In the meantime I have to get my taxes together to meet with my accountant next week.  So much for that relaxing weekend.  What are you guys up to?

Note:  Not sure it's a geisha per se...only trying to describe. Thanks anonymous.

Wow! Looks like its coming along (not that I know anything about remodeling...) I like that he's keeping some touches of the old restaurant.

I'm losing track, but I think Ive done 8 days of the Shred. I should probably do 2 tomorrow so I'm up to Level 2. Oh how quickly whatever motivation I had has left the building. The lightning probably took it. Wiped out everything else.

Katie don't give up. I'm going to do at least #9 tomorrow and worst case do #10 on Saturday, then off Sunday and level up on Monday. Girl you had a near death experience. You need to pour one out and take a deep breath.

I'll be honest, without #shredcrew I'd throw in the towel after this week. I'm in though so i'll figure something out. I think there's enough room in the bedroom to make it work. There's always an excuse NOT to work out, which is why I need to stick with this so badly in the first place. Go figure.

Hey girl, hang in there. I hope the situation with the apartment gets resolved soon. Just stay positive. Try to enjoy the weekend. XO

At least the iced tea was unsweetened! ;-)

I'm SO EXCITED (the caps help stress this, right?) about the restaurant and I'm glad he's keeping the geisha - it'll add the perfect amount of quirk. I only wish I were visiting California again in the foreseeable future to pop in when it's open! Blogger meet up? I think so.

I'm so glad he's keeping the mural. It's a nice nod to the former place. And I've been wanting one if those hot dog....well, one of each the ny and the chi for weeks. Trying to stay strong! I'm sure I'll cave soon.

That geisha painting is beautiful. I'm so glad the chef decided to keep it, too. On another note, I think that much shredding deserves some Sonic! Have a lovely (and hopefully less stressful) weekend. It's times like these I thank heavens that my dad is an accountant.

Ugh, sounds like a rough week, Carrie. I hope the tax situation doesn't turn out too badly. On a lighter note, the restaurant is making quick progress! I love that he left the mural on the ceiling. It's so cool. I hope you can get some rest this weekend! I'll be in Detroit until Wednesday, so we'll catch up then. ;)

The restaurant looks great. You should tell that Chef of yours to hurry up and finish so he can sponsor an all you can eat ShredCrew dinner. We will deserve it after all!

I think that you actually showed an incredible amount of restraint at Sonic. Ex: stopping at two onion rings. And the Chef's place is looking FANTASTIC! I love the new roof and that he kept the painting over the bar. Can't wait to see more as it progresses!

Sorry you had such a stressful week. I can beat up your landlord a little if you like, and I'm sure if you keep shredding you won't even need me for that. With my step brother home from Afghanistan (he came home yesterday) this weekend will be awesome. But, a very busy weekend as well!

This is so exciting and oh, brings back memories of my childhood (the restaurant, not the Ketel One). I hear you on being off track this week--I blogged ONCE. ha. After my NYC trip, I am spent . . . so this weekend will be mellow to say the least. Can't handle or afford anything wild!

that mural is gorgeous! is there going to be a rooftop bar? (because that would be so rad) or is that where a different sign will go?

The restaurant is looking good.

I too started the shred. I actually thought that level 1 was too easy and after doing it for 4-5 days moved on to level 2. It's going good so far bur 20 min a day is not enough. I am going for a long run tomorrow.

Wow, so much progress has already happened! I hope you weekend is restful and exciting at the same time :) Oh, and shred til the cows come home!

My weekend = rehearsal, rehearsal, and more rehearsal. Of course, to make things better, I walked into the kitchen this morning to find the oven door on the floor. (Yep. Floor. How? WTF. Who knows.) And then the garbage disposal decided to back up and flood the sink. Yummy. (not.) Treat yourself to a spa day? That's what I need to do...

I'm sorry to hear that it's been such a tough week, and I wish you could take a that weekend trip home. It sounds like you need it. Hang in there, my friend. The dust will settle. And when it does your body will be ready ;).

I do want to take a moment though and tell you that this makes me even more inspired... The fact that you had this type of week, and have still managed to Shred, motivate us (you've seriously motivated us), and keep your sense of humor(!)... Hero.

that painted geisha is beautiful! good luck with the big decision :)

I headed up my fair share of bar openings, and it always amazed me how one minute the entire place would be a construction zone, and the next you would have an actual bar. It seriously feels like those last details making it an actual place come together so fast. I'm kind of jealous you guys get to experience that... I used to love those openings! Stressful as all get up, but still... so crazy exciting!

Carrie!! Not Sonic!! I'm hating only because they like to show commercials around here but the closest is about an hour away. Judging from that pic of you at the bar, you so don't need to be shredding!

I've only skipped one day so far (hair appt), but I've done level two and talked my bf into trying it with me since he wants to get in shape for a future trip.

this free bird said...

hey fsh - i attribute the slender look to the boyfriend jeans. thanks to current/elliot for creating the perfect hang in the waist thereby eliminating any hint of muffin. hehe

that being said - a combo of pilates and 9 days of shred is already working. get after it! it will yield results. woo hooooo for the bf jumping onboard. yeah!
