Dear Crazy People: This Is Not Your Next Home

This week has been filled to the brim with crazy.  Monday went by in a tax prepping blur as I showed the apartment to what seemed like an endless stream of neighbors I really hope I don't get - here's just a few:
  • Teen Mom Candidate
  • 20 lb dog lady who wants the beast to lounge on my Moroccan deck.   That's.Not.Happening.
  • Guy who has never lived in the same state with girlfriend (does the landlord live here?), but is "sure" they'll get along fine (does the landlord live close by?) even though he really doesn't want her to quit her job (did you say the landlord lives upstairs?) and go back to school.  Do I have any advice on how he can talk her out of it?  Huh?  Oh and btw buddy, I AM the landlord.  No I didn't say that, but boy was I tempted.
  • And today's person really took the cake.  Sppppokkkke soooooo slowwwwwly IIIII coooouuuulllld baaaarrreeeellly unnnderrrrstannnnnd hiiiiiim, got all up in my personal space, didn't want to see closet space, individual rooms or anything opting instead to corner me in the hallway to ask:  Do you live here alone?  How long have you lived here?  Does anyone live here with you (uh, already asked that ya cuckoo bird)?  By now I'm officially terrified and looking for something to hit him with when the kicker happens:  A huge moth flies out of his hair (I'm also terrified of moths for some strange reason) and flutters to land on the ceiling...followed by a mid-sized one that goes flying off into my office.  Okay Silence of the Lambs it's time for you to get out.  (At the door he turns and points to one of my pictures:  Isssss thaaaat youuuuu?  Me: Yes.  Him:  You look so much different.  Me:  GOOD-BYE as I shut the door in his face, locking it behind him.  HELP!)
Tuesday I was 25 minutes late to the tax appointment due to Southern California road construction in mid-afternoon.  Why me?  Thankfully Blanket came along to ease my nerves...he was a huge hit at the accountant's office.  Five women huddled around him upon arrival, and people kept walking in and out of the office we were in for four hours just to get a look at him.  It was quite heartwarming.

Somewhere in here I managed to throw on a semi-decent outfit and grab a few pictures.  Thankfully disheveled is in right now.

~Joie - Dress worn as tunic, James Perse - Ribbed Tank Dress, Gap - Pintucked Wide leg~
And yes that look on my face says it all:  I've had enough.
~ Motif 56-Wide Cuff and Woven Bracelets, PANYC-Wrap Bracelet, Anthro-Belt,
Target-Sunnies, Melinda Maria-Ring, Africa-Necklace~
Earlier this month I ironed my hair for the first time in weeks before class.
Girl:  You straightened your hair!  Me:  You mean I combed it, right?  Girl:  um, nooooo - but
face complete agrees with my statement.  Me:  No worries.  I like a good rat's nest.  Girl: um, okay?
I think we're best friends now.  She laughs her head off and waves every time she sees me.
Still wearing these Gap Wide Legs in heavy rotation...hope they bring more back.
Worth picking up at least one more pair.
Thankfully the sun's staying up  longer.  Hopefully it brings out the sane renters because I
am not looking for a version of I am Legend brought to life.
How much you wanna bet that guy on the bike is one of the people I show
the apartment to later today?  He was totally making a getaway on that bicyclette.

I spent yesterday morning at the Chef's restaurant and it is looking so much more put together than last week.  I was relieved, if you want the truth.  In the meantime I'm about to go into full speed moving mode seeing as Friday and Saturday are the days to get all the big pieces upstairs as the Chef tries to oversee construction and renovation, while trying to assist in the move.  How fun.  I might not be back to normal visitation of your blogs until next week, so go do crazy things in the next few days so we can share stories.  P.S. Haven't shredded in two days.  Confession!!

Like I already told you, my moving tips involve cocktails. Margaritas are always a good choice. That, and try to avoid heavy lifting. I'm not a lot of help when it comes to moving.
My week is consisting of the Shred slowly sucking the life out of me and Jared continuing to plan some ridiculous vacation where we're in a cabin, removed from civilization. Now he thinks we should not only be in said cabin, we should take a "technology break" while we're there. I told him I keep hearing "Deliverance" music in my head.

He's freaking me out. Send help.

One thing's for sure: I will not send any of the crazy birds who have expressed interest in this apartment. You neeeed a phone for safety purposes.

isn't it just lovely how any time you encounter the public, it turns out to be a shocking and somewhat scary experience!? I work in a mall now... yea I know really putting that college degree to good use... and I worry daily about people's sanity.

If those people had walked into my apartment, i'd have had my finger on some mase in my pocket.

You are one hot stylish lady!

p.s. what level of crazy do you have to be for a moth to be living in your hair?!

When my hair was long, I was all about a messy rat's nest. Sorry about the peeps...hopefully someone normal today. My LA apt renting was no picnic. I had a stalker handyman in Hollywood and was denied a beach front one due to not being married. Blah.

silence of the lambs guy could be my future husband so i call dibs on him. NOT! at least you looked fabulous on this weird ass day :) verrrryyy cool pants. and the joie tunic as a dress is great. i'm shocked the story didn't end with "then teen mom candidate appeared out of nowhere from the shrubs, snatched the camera, and ran off into the sunset!"

Wow, moth dude sounds crazy freaky! Our landlord has listed our apartment so we've had an endless stream of people in and out toady and yesterday looking at the place but they've all been fairly normal...I think.

Holy Jebus. Silence of the lambs is right. At least you get to pick the tenant (you do, right?), hopefully you can get a reasonably sane and quiet person down there. Too bad Chef can't do the showings, keep the creepster men in check.

You always crack me up! I decided to sublet my fully furnished adorable appartment for the summer last year... I saw the craziest people.... someone wanted to try the bed..... as in IN the bed... that was obviously not going to happen.... I share your pain!
Good luck, xo

Girl You look adorbs...and SO sorry beyond words for the crazies that have been coming to move by you! Sucks balls!

But hey it is almost time for the weekend!

fshnonmymind said...

Moths!!! That would freak me out too. I think you might want to consider some protection or a bodyguard when showing the apartment from now on.

Love the tunic and the fact that you paired it with those wide leg jeans. I rarely go into The Gap, but these jeans make me want to head straight there at lunchtime today.

omg...hilarious...we are soon going to be putting in our 30 day notice and apartment hunting...hopefully it goes a little better than your run!

Okay. No. I don't believe you. A MOTH did not fly out of a grown mans hair!!!!!!!! I am at work dying of laughter!! I feel like things happen to you that would not happen to anybody else!!

Oh wow, you're moving this weekend??? This week must be crazy too then! Oh how I hate moving. But it's so nice to get settled in a new place. Love this outfit, Carrie. That belt is to die for! I need a big brown belt like that. The moth man sounds really scary! Keep your doors locked. I hope you find a great new neighbor soon! xo

Great shots! I hope all this apartment stuff gets settled soon. It must be so frustrating!

Well you totally just made me burst out laughing (actually out loud) in my nonprofit management class. Whoopsies. Ooh those people sound totally no bueno. 2 of my roommates unfortunately have to move out and we're having a similar experience replacing them. Let's just say I have never flexed my facebook creeper skills harder- nor have I ever wondered "wtf would anyone put this on fb" as often before. Two words: OY! VEY!
Good luck with everything!

You must meet even crazier people trying to rent the apartments! You handled yourself well, in any case..

Great outfit as always!

Love your outfit Carrie! Especially your pants! I've been waiting for the snow to melt to buy the Gap trousers you have on but I don't think I can wait much longer.

Good luck with the tennant hunt. I remember showing my condo to two dudes that hadn't showered in 3 or 4 days and smelled like alcohol and pot. Ummm....no.

Josie said...

Moving is brutal... I hope your new neighbors are at least vaguely normal, Carrie. And your Silence of the Lambs comment killed me -- I watched it for my film class last semester and have been having nightmares since. And you know me loving those jeans.

Happy moving Carrie....I don t think I like the sound of any of those neighbors either.....hopefully they keep rollin on....swooning as usual over those jeans....and if ya did see the biker dude? I would have said it was already rented, hehehe!

Here's hoping Mothman doesn't reappear. I'm going to mix up a cocktail and get moving the little stuff. Wish me luck...

Claire Kiefer said...

1. Love that outfit. Boho dreamy!
2. Cool neighbors is muy importante. Do you have any friends you could recruit? My last neighbors (who lived in the awesome penthouse upstairs) were my besties, and then the freaks moved in when they left. I haven't let go of the bitterness. Plus now the yappy dog. Whom I want to toss out the window.
3. It's really pretty great that the landlord is letting you pick the tenants!
4. God bless your moving soul. I haven't done it in over five years and shudder at the thought.

xoxo

oh my god! how did you get so many crazies?! i'm so sorry for you, although, this post did provide a really hearty laugh for me, so i guess thank you for sharing the horrors of apartment-showing. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for lots of totally, perfectly, normal people to show up the rest of this week. and that outfit is so cute - you're so beautiful!

Kayla said...

Moth. A MOTH! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Who has moths in their hair and doesn't notice? I hope you find a suitable normal nice tenant. Preferably one who is your age, super nice and likes to share wine all while knowing how to stay out of your business and respectful. That'd be good no?

OMG that scary dude was making ME nervous as I read this post. Too many weirdos out there! I'm confused though hehe - I thought you lived in an apt and hated it so you were moving out? Or do you manage another building? See this is what happens when I'm MIA for awhile. Boo to me.

You look adorable as always :)

Higgenbottom said...

oh my goodness! slow talker is insane! possibly a moth-controlled zombie. i really want to know his story. but yes, it's absolutely necessary you close and lock the door on his face (he needs to receive that message loud and clear). he's scarily interested in you. you may want to locate a pair of HUGE men's mud-covered construction boots and a HUGE dog dish and water bowl and keep these items next to your front door. along with an NRA sticker on your front window.

We watched Pacific Heights after our dramatic escape from the old apartment/crazy Michael Keaton neighbor-we now have a crrrrazy black cat named after our favorite crazy neighbor actor!

I hope you find a sweet, happy, well-adjusted couple or quiet mousy girl you can give fabulous makeovers to this weekend, darling!

Oh my you bad bad shredder. I don't know how on earth you are dealing with this crazy apartment thing. I would have a hard time taking these people seriously, and not laughing in their faces. Also, the guy who kept asking if the landlord lived there wasn't going to pay his rent on time.

Please continue to post about the people that come to look at the apartment. I think it's hilarious and it brightens my day; I'm just sorry you have to go through the whole process of meeting them in order to share! I'm sure you'll find someone soon! And, I love your wideleg jeans look. I bought some and tried them on a liked them...then I put them back in the box and they're sitting in my living room because I'm afraid to wear them and don't know what to wear them with. I think I may also get the leg taken in a bit. It's huge on me.
