This is How It's Going Down

Epic bummer on the home front:  I can't go back to Canada to be with my family for Christmas.  It is the tale of a passport that UPS "misplaced" for 21 days, that a loyal blog friend then located and had delivered, followed by line upon line upon....well let's just say the passport isn't here yet and airline tickets are at a minimum of $1500.  All this sent me into a bit of a tear-filled spiral this weekend. Okay and last week.  Christmas is the one time of year where you can have guilt-free days off from work because everyone else is doing nil with their friends and family too.  I want my mom's cookies! *whine*

Sigh.

Looks like it'll be a concrete jungle-filled Christmas this year.

It's pretty tempting to just get into a nap-induced fetal and remain there until January 2nd.  And it might happen anyway, but it would be nice to get some traditions of my own going.  I'll be honest:  one thing I always do at this time of year is buy and religiously wear Abercrombie & Fitch sweatpants.  Go ahead.  Laugh.  Laugh all you want, but know this:  the sweats they push out at the holidays are unparalleled.  Soft, smushy fabric that's like velvet on the skin.  Sized to fit the adults of the world vs. the 12 year old skinny girls they cater to the remainder of the year.  I lived in mine all weekend and given the need for comfort at this traumatic time *drama queen in the house* am hoping Santa hears my cry and drops a couple more pairs under the DECORATED (victory!) tree.

Santa?  Santa you out there?  More smelly A&F sweats please.  This is a red alert.

Is it wrong to want to spend Christmas day lying around in one's A&F sweats munching sugar cookies, watching Elf, and dozing in and out of a food-induced coma?  We think not.

EPIC bummer :( Sounds like UPS is on Santa's naughty list.

You know, I think the Christmas day you've describe is pretty perfect. Especially if it's spent looking at that tree! It's gorgeous. (I especially love how The Chef is reaching up to decorate and you're lounging in your sweats. As it should be.)

I abandoned A&F sweats when the VS Pink line came out (like how I said that like it was just a few months ago or something? anyway...). I'm starting to think that was an epic mistake.

I know going to see your family would be the obvious first choice, but the Christmas with the sweats, cookies, and Elf... it sounds pretty good, too.

that is so annoying! I'm sorry. But in other news, your lounging sounds great and I wouldn't mind sitting in your living room.

Man that is by cool. I really hope you get to see your family soon! Otherwise sugar cookies and super comfy sweats sounds fabulous.

PS Trakkies is Aussie for sweats and you must say it in your best Aussie accent.

I am so sorry that the tale of the passport has ended badly! I was keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it would get back to you on time. New sweats and a food induced coma sounds good though... xo

I think that sounds pretty fab and your tree looks pretty dang good! And I believe you can eat as many cookies as you want because they are necessary and the calories don't add up in December.

Aw, I am sorry you can't make it home for the holidays :( Maybe do some fun holiday activities in your area that you would have missed if you had been in Canada.

I've been frustrated with them too. I mailed a package eons ago and my friend still hasn't gotten it. Grr. I'm sorry you won't be there for Xmas.

I'm sorry you can't make it home for Christmas - that really sucks. I'm also staying away from Canada this year, having a quite Christmas in New Haven with all the other grad students who can't afford to go home for the holidays because home is a crazy expensive place to fly to like Australia or Finland. I'm sure you're still have a great Christmas though - just allow yourself to slip quietly into that sugar cookie induced coma.

I think that your desire for A&F sweats, "Elf," and food comas is totally acceptable at this time of year. In fact, I may join you. How much is a ticket to California? :)

Okay, I never thought I would say this- but now you're making me want to buy A&F sweats. WHAT?! How dare you?!

If I lived in LA I'd drop off some sugar cookies. Sorry you're staying in the US of A.

that sounds like the perfect christmas to me, actually!

What on Earth else would you be doing for Christmas? I'm so sorry love, but just thinking of the margaritas Santa will bring!

I was thinking of flying out there during my XMas break but tickets are 1,000 dollars and I didnt want to part with that much savings just yet. :(

no it's not wrong and I will be doing the same!! The one time of year where it is perfectly acceptable to not shower for consecutive days, eat like a vulture and watch countless movies! Perfection.

Oh no so sorry to hear you can't make it back to Canada this Christmas. I am sure you can have a second Christmas with your family when you get the whole passport issue sorted.
And cookies, comfy clothes and Elf sounds like a pretty good way to spend the festive season!

Amber said...

Thats a bummer and a half. I think vegging out in sweats and stuffing yourself with cookies is the only logical way to spend Christmas.

LyddieGal said...

awww, you can't go home for christmas? i would be crying too, that is the saddest thing ever.

sugar comas and velvet-like sweatpants sound like the only cure.

I hope a christmas miracle happens and your passport arrives tomorrow!

Well it looks like it won't be a white Christmas here in Alberta so maybe that will help...so sorry to hear of your passport woes. Food, movies and sweats are definitely justified and in order. Merry Christmas Carrie :)

Sounds like the PERFECT!!!!!!! way to spend a weekend, we will be doing similar things in these parts - no fam no where to go or no reason to get dressed up. Just need to stock the fridge and bar & I'll be good to go!

BOOOOOO! I am so sorry that you can't go home this year-- can you make it out there after Christmas? Hopefully Santa puts a few extra pairs of A&F pants under the tree for you....

If it's any consolation, I think an awesome pair of sweatpants + food and relaxation sounds kind of wonderful (says the person who would live in sweatpants if I could). But I hope you can get home to see your family soon :-/

So, so sorry to hear you won't be heading home this Christmas. Totally. Sucks. But I know you will make the best of it, and a sugar induced coma is a great start.

Awww Carrie I am so sorry you aren't able to go home for Christmas, my heart actually sank when I read that. Big hug to you. I'm glad you have Chef to celebrate with though, you two will have fun! And yes, it's totally okay to want to sit around in sweatpants on Christmas day or every day (as long as you're at home.)

Oh man. I am so sorry. That is an epic bummer. Given the circumstance, I think a sugar induced coma and sweats are a great start. And I do avoid Abercrombie--oh because yes---I am a woman, and their clothes have never fit me given the hips I grew at age 12 haha. I may have to try a pair of their sweats. :) Sending you a hug.

Josie said...

NOOOOO! Carrie, I'm so sorry. I cannot possibly imagine how heartbreaking this must be for you. I'm sending you a zillion hugs right now and I know your family is as well. However. Your new Christmas plan sounds kind of phenom, especially considering the circumstances. If it helps, maybe this will aid you in avoiding the 6 lb I've gained since getting home...

Boo to UPS! I'm so sorry that you're not able to go home for the holidays this year. Hopefully you two will stir up some fun holiday traditions on your own this year. But if you really want a dose of cold, you're welcome to come to Wisconsin and hang out with us (and Bacon!) on the big day.
