Decorate What?

On Friday we arrived, filled with excitement, at the beloved tree lot.  Determined to linger and not get caught in a panic we were, of course, late and had to rush a little.  This led to strategizing prior to departing the vehicle.  Dialogue included the following:

Him:  Don't get caught up in the wreaths.  We're here for a tree.
Me: Oh ma gah I want to ride the train.  Do you think they'll let me on there?
Him:  Are you listening to me?
Me:  Is there a height restriction for the train?
Him:  Hel-lo! TREE TREE TREE
Me:  Fiiiine (eye roll)  I hear you.  Stay out of the 7 footers.  Capiche?  I don't think we can fit one of those mothers through the door.  Remember last year? (don't ask)

Upon exiting the vehicle here's how it went down:
Nerves dissipate as the scent of Pine, Noble Fir, Douglas Fir and whatever other wonderful
tree smells are out there waft into our nostrils.  It's Christmas-tree time.

He thinks this might be the one.

While I make best friends with this tree which is, coincidentally, over 7ft tall.
Ahem.  Insert foot in mouth.

The tree guy agrees that this is the one.  The Chef doesn't really care.  It's over 7ft tall. Sold!
Time for gymnasio into the dojo aka trying to stuff it up the stairs into our place.

Sunday afternoon we limber up for decorating time.
Okay he mocks my stationary lunges.  Whatever.
Three hours later we had one strand of lights on and went for a Mexican food break.
Sounds about right.

Cut to scene and it is now Wednesday night.  That one, lone, strand of lights remains on the tree due to insanity decorating at the restaurant (which looks marvy btw) while the house looks like a tornado blew through here flinging one strand of lights on the tree in the corner.  On that note:  I gotta go.  It would be nice to have the tree decorated by Christmas and I only have 10 days left to make that happen.

Am I the first to comment? Carrie! This has never happened before!!! Okay, I love everything about this post. From the convo, to the hopes of a train ride, to the static lunge stretches. Can I say your man is hot? You guys are the hottest couple!

Woman you are too kind. Is anyone even reading this thing anymore? I'm in the woods at work/trying to shop/figure out passport/decorate the restaurant/decorate the tree/sleep/consume chocolate.

HALP!! Thanks for not forgetting me! He's quite something. And I know how to weasel my way onto a kids' train. xo

I don't have any advice for putting lights on the tree because I was passed out on the couch when Jared worked on ours, seeing as it was a few hours after I got out of the ER. I commend you for having a regular tree buying experience as opposed to the drama we had thanks to me. Tis the season!

Ha! Sounds like quite an adventure to me. I have faith in you on getting your tree decorated. Though if you're feeling crafty, I feel like a Carrie tree needs some fringe somewhere.

Hilarious! I wanna see a pic of your tree with one measly strand of lights. Too funny. Decorating is my very favorite part! With eggnog and Christmas music and boxes of my favorite ornaments! I'm gazing at my tree right now. :)

Haha, at least you did better than I did... I didn't end up with a tree tied to the roof of the car until after sundown, and while the lights are up, the ornaments have yet to make an appearance.

Mission accomplished! I admit I would have gotten a bit more distracted by the train, so your perseverance is admirable! Can't wait to see the tree all dolled up!

Carrie. I freaking adore you. That's about it. My parents decorated the tree without me for the first time ever this year, and I'm thrilled that your story let me live vicariously through you... Hope all's well!

That tree you picked out is quite a looker!! And I'm loving Chef's stretches...you guys crack me up!

I'm cracking up because THIS IS MY LIFE. Or at least, my life with my family.

We usually buy our tree 3 days before Christmas, and from a farm, which means a chainsaw and a hack saw will be required. Then it doesn't fit, then there's a huge, screaming argument about who was stupid enough to buy a 12ft tall, 5 ft wide tree. Once inside, I throw a fit when someone tries to add colored lights, or God Forbid, the Tijuana Christmas Star that blinks Feliz Navidad and finally my fingers are bleeding and it's 3am and I'm the ONLY PERSON still decorating the damn tree.

I'm so glad I'm not alone.

haha, you're hilarious! and i understand this post all too well. we bought our tree two weeks ago and it still sits barren in our living room with a stack of lights sitting on the table next to it. maybe we'll get them on the tree before christmas... maybe.

That last picture is hilarious. We got our tree delivered Monday and it is decorated by 3 crystal candle wreaths and my husband's headphones. It is a dry, 6 foot tall Charlie Brown tree and I refused to decorate it (That and I'm not paying $8 per ornament). Ribbon is ok right?

You crack me up ~ seriously!! Hope you had your train ride and that you have at least 2 sets of lights on the tree by now ~ poor little bugger is naked ~ you need to dress him in sequins and pearls!!

This is too funny! I would totally do the same and pick something that I had initially said wasn't happening either. And you work on my timeline as well. I say as long as you get the lights on before it's time to take them off again you're not doing too badly.

Carrie... I MISS YOU!!! I am so behind in my blog reading. Who knew getting a divorce was a full-time job?! Seriously. I would totally be saying, "I want to ride the train!" I just know we would have a blast together. Love a friend that makes me laugh. Hope your Holidays are going wonderfully. xo

Christmas Tree's rule. I remember when I was little and we lived in the middle of nowhere, we were surrounded my evergreens. Every year me and my dad would hike a half mile into the woods and pick out a tree we both liked. (the rest of the family didn't matter :)) then I would hand my dad his saw from my backpack and BOOM. We got ourself a Christmas tree
