One Fall Day. But Only One.

Labor Day was a glorious day--no laboring.  The Chef had the day off (rarity) so we were footloose and fancy free.  Upon arising in the AM I noticed ominous clouds...and then rain.  Two hours later:  more rain.  "Fine by me", she says to herself, "I think I'll take a nap."

Next thing we knew it was humid and warm and iced tea time.  We emerged from the house.  We had lunch.  We roamed the streets. Cut to scene and it was swanky dinner date time (our much missed fave).  So much for the LBD (seen here) and silk bomber I had planned--more rain.  Being the seasonal embracer I never am (summer lover in the house) I dove head first into my fall clothing and pulled this one out.

~Outfit details:  Zara-Blazer (similar), Vince-Silk Tank (similar), Martin+Osa (RIP)-Black Skinny Denim,
Ash-Ono Boots (similar), Alexander Wang-Coco (Rocco), Anthro-Sunglasses~

I know what you're thinking:  she does not look very happy.  In fact I was quite happy, except for the on with the dress, off with the dress, on with the blazer, off with the blazer, where are those ding-dang pants again??, I think the boots are in here, maybe I do want the dress after all, did that rain stop?, I am getting sweaty and we're gonna be late, wait a second let me get a picture of this one! gymnastics routine.  You know the one, right? *shakes head*

Now here's the thing about Southern California: On Tuesday morning, just hours later, I awoke to flames of heat from the sun, my fall dreams dashed to the fitting room floor.  Ever since it's been bloody 90-113 degrees from morning until night.  Just when I was willing to accept fall, summer came out from behind the clouds and screamed, "PSYCH!!" -- right in my face.

Am I even making sense?  I ate a cream puff for dinner tonight.  And a Mr. Freeze.  Then an ice cream cupcake (it's the year of the birthday).  And 14 glasses of water.  Blame it on the heat stroke.

I know exactly how you feel about this weather. I thought I moved from Houston to escape the heat, but it found a way to catch up with me!

Cheers.

Ahhh boots. I have no clue when I'll need mine. It was 95 degrees here on Saturday, the Biblical flood started Sunday, winter hit, and it'll be 85 by the weekend again.

I'm confused. I don't know what day, month, or season it is.

Okay...you live right down the 405 from me....and I had 100 degree weather and NO RAIN. I am so jealous!
I LOVE fall! Can't wait for it to arrive. It did rain this weekend in the Palm Springs Area though!

Sorry to hear about the crazy weather you had for your date night and the rest of this week! Luckily the weather has been beautiful here in Chicago all week long! I do love the outfit you put together, though! I am a fall lover, and fall fashions are always my favorites! Hope you've been well!

Hey girl,
I can't believe it's so hot right now over there. It's like in the 70s here but there's so much rain, I am afraid it's gonna make FNO a bit difficult, but we are still going out tonight.
So glad you are back!

Yesterday I was sitting in a pool of my own sweat so long that I decided to get in my car and drive to Starbucks, promptly grab a pumpkin spice latte (not as good in 100 degrees as it turns out) and go through the car wash so I could sit in the AC for 15 minutes. Pathetic. Why does SO.CAL always do this in Sept.?! I just came to terms with sweaters and boots and all I want to do is run around in a bathing suit and jump through the sprinkler...

BTW, that blazer is the shizzle. And also I meant to tell you the other night, your ring reminds me of this one

and I really miss it. If you happen to see anything like it in a druzzy agate please promptly let me know!! xoxo :)

I remember that California weather quite well! It is feeling so nice and Autumny around these parts (Connecticut) lately...I'm really liking it.

Also Carrie - I am hosting a giveaway on my page today of a gorgeous Fall Handbag...must.check.it.out!

I wouldn't mind another hello from summer around these parts. Once Labor Day passed, it went from super hot and humid to 40 degrees in the morning. Unacceptable.

Ahhhhh unpredictable weather, something I'm quite familiar with! I hate when you have an outfit planned in your head and mother nature forces you to change things!

The outfit you ended up wearing looks very laid back cool, I love the button details on your blazer :)

I for one am really looking forward to seeing your fall wardrobe...that jacket is perfection.

So Cal is so funny w/weather. My SIL always talks about how your Summer is really just starting now, and we're moving into fall here in Chicago.

You look amazing! I've been trying to squeeze in all my silks and suedes since even though it's 80+ degrees out right now I know the rain is coming.

Jenn

P.S. You made me LOL. I don't EVER use that particular acroynym either. But the mental image of summer screaming "psych" in your face was too much for this girl. I LOL'd.

craziness. this HEAT... & humidity!!

And to make it worse- R just had surgery, so we need to eat {HOT} soup every night... and he can't have any alcohol. wth??

And we all have colds. So I guess the soup & the no alcohol is not such a bad thing after all :).

It was hotter here than in Florida. Fast forward 5 days and I fly home to Fall. I am ok with that. :)

Cream puff, Mr. Freeze, and ice cream cupcake!!! That sounds like a happy, happy dinner.

I've been hearing about the stifling heat in southern California. I think I'll wait till you resume normal temps to visit. I am torn between stomping my feet & demanding summer stick around, and embracing fall merely for the fact that football starts tonight.

You look pretty, if not extraordinarily happy. :)

Looking damn good, Carrie! It's been fall here ever since Monday but I'm ready for summer to come back out and say psych! But maybe in the mid 80s as opposed to 100s!

UGH! I know!! I was getting so excited about breaking out my sweaters, boots, and tights but instead I'm reliving summer!

I don't know if my last comment went through or not. Blogger = grrr. So I just thought I'd say again that I am tired of the heat too. 100 degrees doesn't fly with me anymore. Can't wait for fall!
I hope you are doing well, Carrie! xo

Regardless of the weather I think you are looking spectacular. Love your blazer.

I am NEVER ready for fall. Fall is awful. Fall is cold. People are going around saying that 65° is so nice. What exactly is nice about 65°? I really can't tell you. I would much rather it be 80.

But even in your reluctant layers, you still look wonderful.
