The Grass Is Always Greener

Do you ever just feel like you're going on about your day...do de do de do de do when wham! (not george michael) you get hit between the eyes by the sheer incompetence of those around you?  I often find myself wondering how on earth it is that people are employed.

Take for example my recent run-in with Verizon.  I have what they call the Triple Bundle:  phone, internet and television.  One would think that when you transfer service all 3 pieces of that TRIPLE BUNDLE package would automatically be activated at the new residence, no?  Oh it transferred all right.  For 2 days until someone over there in Verizonland decided to change the status of my order from 'complete' to 'pending' causing only the phone service to go dead.  Why?  No one knows - isn't that interesting?  Three hours and five different departments later, apparently no one over there is 'authorized' to change that one little word back to its appropriate status - COMPLETE.  Someone took the authority to eff it up, but no one wants to man up and take the authority to make it right.  At least not for 24 to 48 hours.  Why?  Who knows?  No one - that's who.  So in the meantime I'm trying to recruit without a phone.  Effective, isn't it? It's like being at a standstill in the dark.  Everyone knows where the switch is, but no one who can reach it will turn the bloody thing on.  Good grief.

Speaking of dark:  the electric company decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and just kill the power to my old apartment rather than transferring it back into the owner's name as has been done since, oh, the dawn of electricity. Oh no that would be too much like, say, proper procedure.  Instead I am now without wheels and a prisoner in my own home due to the fact that my car is parked in the garage that can't be opened because the garage door opener is, you guessed it, electric and on the same account as the one they gloriously (dripping with sarcasm) turned off!  Even better?  There is apparently a rash of electric company switch turn-ons this week so they can't get the account reactivated - and my car out of the garage - until...wait for it...MONDAY.  Pardon me while I spontaneously combust.

Excuse me stranger?  Can I get a ride?  Is that a moth in your hair?  Oh, no thanks.

Can someone please turn the lights back on?  I'm just trying to keep moving forward and avoid lingering in my former, well put together and much loved abode where everything had its home, was organized and wonderfully decorated.  A place where I could get in and out of the garage with ease.  Those were the days.
Onward and upward, my friends.  I smell Friday and a nice long NAP.

First of all, I ADORE your vest and flats. I'm sorry you're having such a rough week, pal. That is BRUTAL about your electricity; you're being a sport about it. I'd be legitimately throwing a fit.

That's ridiculous about the electric company (and Verizon). Hang in there, at least you look fabulous in this little outfit, love the flats.

Your outfit rocks. Especially with those shoes. And I've had verizon for over 10 years, never any problem. Sorry to hear about yours.

Oh my gosh...could moving be any more frustrating?! I can not even believe turning power back on would be delayed that long! Come on people...it's not that hard!

Well you look fab nonetheless!

Moving is such a pain in the butt, even if you are just moving upstairs. The good news is you look as adorable as ever and you live near the beach so when live is sucky you can go for a relaxing walk! xo

Good grief. I'm with you, it amazes me how difficult (and effed up) the simplest things can get. But I'm actually more amazed not that there are dumb and unnecessary mistakes, but how absolutely unwilling people are to help! I swear customer service is completely dead.
Hope everything is sorted out soon, in the meantime you look fantastic, keep your chin up!!

I feel you. I have run ins like this way too often. As far as the garage, you should be able to unplug the opener and open it manually. There should be a pull cord at the top by the motor where you can unhook it and make it manual. Unless of course your garage is like mine, and you can't get inside of it except from the outside which you can't get open....

Don't you just love moving and the incredible incompetence of some people? Wow. I hope everything gets straightened out soon. And I'm sure that moth guy would be glad to squire you about town if you get desperate enough....

G-Sus girl you have had a week! I have been missing you adn i really think you need a vacation...to Chicago sure why not! Its almost the weekend and no worries you are alive an well! try to not let this get you down!

Like Danielle said, theres some way to open the door manually. My Dad had to do that a couple of time when I was little when the electricity got knocked out. I have no idea how to do it though and if I couldnt push the button to open our garage, Id be homebound.
The cabin is booked for 5 nights next month. I've obsessively checked to make sure theres plenty of working technology since I'm paranoid now, so get yourself across the country and come vacation. No Verizon and plenty of working electricity - I promise.

I really love the dark to light pictures. :) And I can't even begin to imagine the frustration of no car access. Although this happened to one of my babysitting families and they called some garage person who came and opened it (and also installed a physical lock with key on the door as well in case it ever happened again). I hope things look up soon, and here's looking at the weekend. I'm not particularly jazzed about Friday as I will be babysitting FIVE KIDS at night after a full day at work, but Saturday??? May we meet soon.

are you freaking kidding me? that's just ridiculous. there is nothing more frustrating in the world, than the incompetent service provided that you PAY FOR. ugh!
hope it gets fixed much MUCH sooner...

Oh dear God. Thank Jesus for liquor, and hopefully within walking distance. This crazy is not to be believed.

On the other hand, at least you look adorable while you're pulling out your hair!

Ugh... that car/garage situation has totally happened to me before. Only because of a storm. So all power was out. So I didn't have anyone incompetent to blame, unfortunately. Catch up on magazines and take a bubble bath? Or convince Chef to head to palm springs for the weekend. Those would be my suggestions.

what?! that's all craziness!! [long drawn-out sigh] i don't understand why the world isn't being run by the smart people. it really doesn't have to be this hard. well, at least you look beautiful while the world shuts down around you. i hope things get magically fixed today somehow. come on cosmos!

LyddieGal said...

Sometimes I wonder how anything gets done in this world... and how it always seems that the moment an actual problem arises, there is not a soul to be found who does in fact, know how to fix it.

At least you are still looking completely put together and on top of things.

i had to restrain myself to hold back the profanity i wanted to spew about this outfit. fringe! military vest! topknot! flats! sunglasses. this made my day.
per verizon: morons. only people worse are comcast employees.
per moth guy: i told you to stay the hell away from him.
per your week: i'm also having an epic fail of a week. and am constantly quoting will farrell's mugatu "i feel like i'm taking crazy pills". everyone around me is completely insane :) hope all this landlord/verizon/power crud works out before the weekend!

You have the worst luck.ever.

And I have Verizon, but we go to an independent contractor that goes around the Verizon system so we get things at an advantage because the normal Verizon people suck ass.

Oh, Carrie. The people at these companies are so incompetent, it's scary. Every single time I've had to move I've dealt with the same thing. How do they run a business this way?? Wow, sounds like you've had a rough week. It's almost Friday! That's the worst about your car. What a trapped feeling! I LOVE this military vest on you and the black and white pictures are fab. I hope your week gets better from here.
