Yesterday afternoon, after much internal struggle, I fall off the wagon and decide come hell or high water I'm making these things, tasting a row and then giving the remainder away. Just enough to satisfy the craving - you know how it is, right?. There I was in the kitchen up to my elbows in chocolate, peanut butter and rice krispies. It was Thursday, one work day left and all was right in the world. I set the tray out to cool, laid down on the couch and prepared to relax for 15 minutes. Cut to scene where I wake up an hour later to find the cat has decided she wouldn't mind giving these a sample either. True story. Have you ever seen a cat try to swallow peanut butter and chocolate? Think "licking chops" for 2 hours. It's a lot more amusing today than it was last night - although I did have a giggle or two.
Let's just say this morning involved a re-do. And so without any further ado I present to you - The Double Chocolate Crumble Bar. Prepare for greatness and keep away from cats.
Double Chocolate Crumble Bar
Ingredients
1/2 C margarine
3/4 C sugar
2 eggs
1t vanilla
3/4 C flour (gluten-free blend listed here if you need it)
1/2 C pecans, chopped
2T cocoa
1/4t baking powder
1/4t salt
1 - 6oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 C peanut butter
1 1/2 C rice krispies
2 C mini marshmallows
Directions
Cream margarine and sugar; beat in eggs and vanilla.
Stir together nuts and dry ingredients.
Stir into egg mixture.
Spread into bottom of greased 13x9x2'' pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle mini marshmallows evenly on top. Bake for 3 minutes.
Melt peanut butter and chocolate chips over low heat.
Stir in rice krispies.
Spread on top of cooled bars. Chill and serve. Keep away from cats.
Have a great weekend everyone! What's on your agenda? I'm going to try to conquer the closets. If you don't hear from me on Monday send a search and rescue team. Lord knows the Chef won't be checking in...all the booths are installed in the restaurant and it's full steam ahead. Woo Hoo!! Will try to sneak in there and get some pictures to share for next week.

hmmm yummy! keep away from cats (like you said) and dogs!!!
Oh lord, Carrie. I'm going to pretend that I didn't read this. You've been such a good influence with the shredding but as for this--nooooo! Would you believe I haven't had chocolate OR alcohol in almost a MONTH?? I figured I might as well behave food-wise if I was gonna spend all this time torturing myself with Jillian. Ready for my cousin to arrive so I can ditch all this and make chocolate crumble bars!!
Oh send me some! Hehehe, they look divine. I might give them a try sometime or better, I'll have hubby make them for me!
These look delish! Will definitely be making these within the next week. I LOVE rice krispie treats-so add chocolate and peanut butter to the mix. Um, yes please--sorry jillian!
What are you doing to me woman! All my Shred work will be gone...but these look too good to resist. And my cat has the biggest sweet tooth so something tells me I'd better banish her from the kitchen.

Oh wow ~ I officially hate you as I sit here trying to figure out if I have everything on hand to make these! Get your butt down to the restaurant ~ I need to see those booths all recovered! Oh ~ and before you head into the closet ~ tie a rope around your waist so you can find your way back out! Happy week-end Carrie ~ a long one here as you know ~ bbq and sunshine is on the menu ~ hope the sun got the invitation! xo
yum! totally understandable that you would have mom make them for you. such a problem with baking... when you end up eating it all yourself!
hope you have a great weekend, carrie!
Hi Carrie! I saw your comment on Bonnie's blog and I am also Canadian and also short :) I decided to stop by your blog and see what you're all about. the recipe looks great - I'll have to give it a try :)

omg. you've just blown my mind. I actually just conducted a mental checklist to see if I had all the ingredients in my cupboard or if I'm going to have to run to the store. aka I need these in my life.
also, saw your comment re: the collages -- I usually do mine with photoshop and illustrator. I erase all the background in photoshop and then make the actual collage in illustrator. it's really tedious and kind of a pain in the ass. apparently polyvore is an easier way to do them.
Oh, those look sooo good! I've been craving chocolate for three days.. about to jump thru the screen
Haha, your cat has good taste. They look amazing. Watching cats eat some stuff is hilarious, like trying to eat a cheese slice that's stuck firm to the floor. Every now and then we'd give the dog a big marshmallow to eat and watching him chew like it was his job made us howl with laughter. Easily amused :) But I mean, weren't dogs and cats (especially cats) put here purely for our own amusement?
Dying. On every level. This was totally the cause of my peanut butter binge tonight, Carrie... No joke.

The other night I had the biggest craving for rice krispie bars w/chocolate on top so I made some at about midnight - they're my fave. Definitely must try these!
NOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo, Cuppie!!!!!!!!!! She can handle himself...
But the real question is: who would do such a thing???
Oh my. Stepping away now...
Have a good weekend dear. Seriously, how people have full weeks with work, client stuff, families and blogs is beyond me...

These look amazing, Carrie! You have the best recipes.... the Peppermint Bark you shared has now become a Christmas staple over here. I am so glad my dogs can't get up on the counter because they would help themselves to everything. Logan was sitting on the floor eating an ice cream cone and Buddy, (a.k.a. bad dog), managed to grab the whole thing right out of her hand before she even knew what hit her. (He's not morbidly obese for no reason)!
Delicious...I'm heading to the kitchen!

these must have been outrageously good!
Have a wonderful weekend : )

the plate is hilarious! and these seem wayyyy to good to just have a sliver!
Oh my gosh, these look and sound absolutely heavenly. All of my favourite ingredients brought together, hmmm!! Hope you're having a fabulous weekend. xx veronika
PS As for H&M? Yes, SO one of those places that you have to check often. Good luck. ;-)
err my goddd. just when i thought i couldn't love you more. these look fantastic!
That plate...yeah right. More like - ok, just inhale 3-5 :)
Goooo Chef! How exciting!!
Seriously Cary! I am leaving town for a week to live in a bathing suit on the beach and now all I want to bring with me {besides my family, of course} are these chocolate bars. I think they will be the perfect comfort food on our very long plane rides, across country, with two boys under 3. Have a lovely weekend my dear! xo Samantha
I don't have any cats, but I don't think there is a risk of a kitten getting any of these- they would be consumed immediately. I showed Mark the pic of them and we are re-thinking getting gym memberships this weekend in favor of a delicious chocolate coma!
Ooooh I love this idea! I'm such a terrible enabler...go work out (no don't) hehe. xo
These look dangerously good. Love the above comment (Oh.My.Effer.) =).
Totally making these this week. We have a big container of mini marshmallows that we *need to use, so I'll just *need to whip up a batch of these babies.
... Very exciting for the chef! Looking forward to pics!
sorry for the comment slew!! I read your posts on my phone when I was away, but obviously I have to come back and comment;)
these look to die for! i love when you bake!!
