Blue Dots and Velvet

Okay velour, but velvet sounds better and who am I to mess with words?

Here we are at Wednesday - a few days to the weekend.  Yippee!!  I have mixed emotions as I type because this weekend will be filled with things to do that don't entail much lying in bed and relaxing (favorite pastime hehe).  All I can think about is how Monday may be met with exhaustion and that causes a bit of stress on the heart.  However yesterday afternoon I managed to alleviate just a little bit of that stress by putting together a very fun outfit for an event I have on Saturday that is casual, yet requiring a bit of sass.  The kind where you don't want to show up over-dressed, yet under-dressed will not be a good scenario either.  Long live Closet Quest 2010. (And living in the moment for Pete's sake!!  Monday will take care of itself.)

Remember last week when I mentioned my closet dive?  (here and here if you missed)  I have to tell you I came out with some great stuff that had almost been forgotten *hangs head*.  Amongst several new old treasures was a velour moto vest I got last year at Juicy Couture (along with a couple of fur pieces that made me scream out loud with glee!!).  Today when it came out of the closet my wardrobe rolodex immediately clicked to a fab ruffled t-shirt and the rest was outfit history.  Saturday here I come!!

Tom Ford Sunnies, Juicy Couture Velour Moto Vest and Ruffled T,
Martin+Osa Denim (RIP),
Alexander Wang Coco Handbag, Mike & Chris Boots
The fluttery goodness of the sleeves on the t-shirt makes my heart happy!
Marrying textures like velour and ruffles is simple perfection:  my fave.
I threw on a Dean Davidson necklace for bit of shine against the grey,
and to bring out the zipper contrast on the vest just a bit more.
Mike & Chris boots save the day yet again.
These have held up for over 2 years and still keep bringin' the sass!
What was that?  Saturday's on the phone?  Okay, I'll be ready in a minute.
Ha!

Truthfully though - it's tough to know you have somewhere to go and even though you have stuff in the closet, you just aren't certain the right thing is in there.  So many times I am tempted to simply buy something, and then don't always wear it again.  A case specific purchase can be completely justified and sometimes even necessary (wedding, important meeting, big date, just to name a few...), but when I challenge myself and find a loved solution already in the closet, now that's a jackpot!!  Happy Wednesday everyone!  Any recent fab closet conquests to share?

ps-day 2 of return to workouts accomplished! yay!

There is no one on earth - celebrity or otherwise - with a wardrobe that could combat yours! I am in awe over the amount of amazing things you pull out of there! Also, you have so inspired me to go closet diving to see if I can find any forgotten treasures - doubtful considering I spend most of my money on shoes; but we'll see. :)

Love the "tough" look of the moto jacket with the soft juxtaposition of the ruffled sleeves and wispy hemline!

Awesome vest! I have something similar, but not as cool. :P I've been discovering a lot of old things in my closet (or in boxes) lately that actually aren't half bad. Glad I didn't get around to giving them away!

I love the ruffles with the moto vest and even better that it's velour! And as usual, I'm impressed with the forgotten items you're pulling out of your closet. I get anxiety when my weekend is too packed too. I need my downtime to recharge. I can't see your pictures again! :( I can still click on them and see them that way, but they're not showing up in the post.

Those fluttery sleeves make my heart sing! I don't think I could pull them off myself, but love how they look on you! And that necklace is just too gorgeous - loving big necklaces right now :) Your closet dive was epic! Can't wait to see what else you might've found :)

Love the fluttery goodness. Can't believe you're still wearing short sleeves! Gawd I can't go anywhere these days without wearing three layers plus a winter coat. I'm moving to California.
Oh by the way I always have trouble finding boots that fit around the top (of the calf). Do you ever have this problem?

Claire Kiefer said...

Love this, girlie! You're right; the velour and ruffles together are a dream. You always make me want to go shopping, for goodness sake! I'm afraid my closet doesn't have quite as many treasures as yours, but I'm still gonna try! Also, I LOVE your boots and want a pair just like them.

That outfit is perfect!!!! And its sooo trendy, nobody would believe you are wearing anything from a closet dive.

The weekend is coming early for me as public universities are closed tomorrow for Veteran's Day... I'm going to use the extra day off to clean out my closet, clean my room, kitchen, etc. so that my weekend feels more like a weekend and less like a to-do list.

Nice work finding these pieces you already had and putting them together so awesomely! Love the outfit and the shots captured each aspect so perfectly. I think Saturday just called me and hung up. hate it when that happens. Yes, we must live in the moment!! Why does that sound so much easier than it turns out to be? Well at least we realize when we're doing it, right? ;) xo

i am super jealous of your shades. i'm stuck with regular ol' spectacles til my new insurance kicks in. grumble.
the whole ensemble is pretty fab, really.

my closet resurrection is this skirt i'm wearing today: turquoise plaid (kinda - maybe it's more like a windowpane pattern. whatevs. you don't care. :P stop talking...) very full skirt, 'tea length.' i bought it in paris yeeeeaars ago as a birthday present to myself, but never really felt confident wearing it. but now it's love! :P

OneCraftyFox said...

Carrie, you look freakin' spectacular sassy hotness... OK, so I threw a bunch of words together there but that is what came to mind.

You crack me up, tell that biatch Saturday I'm still waiting for her call ;)

It's easy to ignore what in our closets and trick ourselves into thinking we need something new. I'm happy you are rediscovering all these lost favorites (surely the day you brought it home it was your favorite).
Closet diving is a good habit, and one so many of us need to adopt!

Susan said...

Ahhh ruffles... love them. Velour, it's soft love it too!

Lately I've been into bright coloured satiny blouses. Am I on fashion cue?

I wish you could come here and be my personal stylist :)

You look awsome as per usual.
cheers

K, this is where my no-fashion scents come into play, explain to me, I see that it's OK for you to have gold accents on the boots, yet you wore silver jewelry. That's capiche?

very cali outfit. i like it a lot. also love your blue backdrop. good reminders about diving into our closets for "new" stuff.

Cute boots and vest, awesome outfit! To answer your question you left on my blog regarding Topshop, sizing is true to size in my experience, just make sure you know the conversion between UK and US sizing.

Never thought I'd see the words Happy and Wednesday together. It's usually Weary Wednesday around here. But your outfit, (the T-shirt in particular) certainly makes that a possibility.
P.S.-Glad my house looks clean in photos at least! Tee hee.

HELL-LO MOTO! You look cute in that vest. And the boots and posh sunglasses top off this look wonderfully! I get tired of my closet fast but I'm trying to budget so I have to pull out clothes I haven't worn in awhile. And get this: I was at H & M tonight, I tried on 7 different items of clothing and I walked out with $8.00 winter gloves. That's it! I'm quite proud of myself. Considering all the money I've spent on clothing lately. Yikes.

Don't you get tomorrow off? Don't you have a type of Remembrance Day in the states? I thought you guys did but maybe I'm wrong!

lovely, lovely outfit : )
I am so bad about buying case-specific outfits then never wearing them again...totally admire those who can successfully "shop their closets"

You look fabulous. I want to say that this is maybe my favorite look of yours. I want you to mail me that ruffled sleeved top and the vest? Ok thanks!

I love closet diving- one of my favorite things about going to my hometown is going through all my old crap and finding gems (found a mongolian fur the last time). I am still sooooo jealous of that bag, and I like your vest with this outfit a lot!
