Know Your Roots (Spring Magic)

I'm just going to say it:  I think Monday tried to kill me.

Sadly I fear Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday may also be out for blood.

*Update:  Tuesday's looking up.  Collette at Statements in Fashion featured me for her Twitter Tuesday post.  She is so fun, quite possibly one of the best networked bloggers in the shortest period of time and a tweeting machine.  Check out her blog here and her twitter here.*

I have new projects, potential new projects, things to iron out, calls to make, calls to return, people to tell off, stories to get to the bottom of all while trying to prep for my parents' arrival on Thursday.  This is a big deal - my dad's never been here before.  I think I'm getting hives.  I need a maid.  Fast.

My mom asked what she could bring for me.  Um let me think.  Okay:  ketchup chips, the navajo blanket from the Roots spring campaign, eat-more chocolate bars, pictures of me in my 'fro and her in her green 70's silk jumpsuit, the tan bag from the Roots spring campaign, cinnamon spread, and- oh what the hell- how about the entire Roots spring campaign??  Brace yourselves.

Speechless.
Boots.  Bag. Vest.  Hair.
Bag. Belt. Bracelets. Bag. Bag. Bag. Infinity.
Let's face it - Roots found a magic desert.
Complete with magic tree chairs adorned in fish net. And girls with perfect hair.
A place of rolled leather boots,
other wonderful boots and magic carpets.

I couldn't wait until (dead in my tracks) Thursday to share this.  As it is I've been sitting on it since last Thursday when I stared at it in disbelief off and on all day long.  At least 4039583098x just to make sure it was still there.  Then I got up on Friday and made that blanket mine.  Having grown up in Canada I am a long-time Roots fan, and this is by far and away the most striking campaign I have ever seen them pull out.  I want it all.  Check it out here.  And while you're there take a listen to Chase Cohl's song for the campaign.  It's gonna be one crazy spring.  Boots included.

There's so much going on this week I might not be able to visit every day, but I will try to stop by and see what you're up to whenever I can.  Early retirement?  Are you out there?? Hopefully it will fly in on that magic carpet later this week...

*update:  come on over and 'like' this free bird on facebook. if i ever figure out how to get the like box up i'm sure it will be more convenient.  help.*

Dude. Yes. The blanket. Sign me up.

Hang in there this week... tell those people off. It will inspire me to get a grip on my own psychosis, as well!

I want each of those above items.
kthx.
P.S. All Mondays suck. Except for mine yesterday. But that's because I had no obligations and just got to have fun all day. But today sucks. So there's that.

Holy! Thanks for sharing! Way to go, Roots! They often have some nice things but this campaign is gorgeous! And yay for all your Canadian treats!! Haha, enjoy! I suppose a big bucket of poutine and some garlic fingers wouldn't withstand the trip, eh? (Oh actually, are garlic fingers with donair sauce only an east coast thing? I never really know) Have fun with the parents!!

That girl is stunning. The picture of her in the chair? She is so beautiful! I can't even focus on the fashion cause I'm too busy gazing at how pretty she is.

Can't wait to hear stories about your parents' visit. Good luck!

Valerie said...

Your parents are coming to visit??? That's so exciting and also stressful. I always get anxiety about cleaning before my parents come too. I've been living under a rock and have never heard of Roots. Can we still be friends? I'm now obsessed. Those rolled boots and the tan bag are wardrobe necessities, right? I think so. I'm off to check out the rest of the site. Hang in there, Carrie! I also don't know what cinnamon spread is, but it sounds amazing.

These photos are just breathtaking!
But more importantly, ketchup chips!!! I am having the hugest craving now. I used to get them at least once a week in my lunchbox when I was little (this was in south africa though, I think they were called something different), I love them so much. It kills me that they don't have them here. The last time my husband went to Canada I made him bring me some back and I swear I was like that little Gollum dude with that bag, "my preeeeciiiouuuuss!".

SO your style. Love it and can see you wearing everything.

Have so much fun with your mom!

PursuitOfLLT said...

i feel like that's you in the campaign? totally you head to toe!

and about monday? that poor excuse of a day. i got a flat tire (in the ghetto of chicago. yay!), pulled a neck muscle, couldn't sleep last night, and couldn't get ahold of a very important potential business contact.

i wanted to shoot myself in the face yesterday. such a miserable day!

FRANKIE HEARTS FASHION said...

ahhhh...this is SO fab and so Carrie. Your mama need to def bring you the whole catalog! Hope your load lightens up (that sounds gross) a little! xoxo N

GREAT post! I love every single one. You need all these pieces and model them all for us.

Oh wow. I want to LIVE in that campaign. Is that possible? Jump right in the computer screen now? ;)

Unknown said...

Yeah, that blanket needs to be yours. And mine, too. So awesome! Good luck with your parents coming!

A Crimson Kiss said...

Oh my, I want it all! And then I want to move to New Mexico, so wrapping my Navajo blanket around myself as a coat looks slightly less homeless than it would here.

How exciting that your parents are coming-try not to stress! It's going to be a wonderful visit!

My parents visited me here for the first time a few months ago and I was so STRESSED the whole time they were here, but they really enjoyed it so it was all worth it. Have fun!!
And I think I need that magic carpet with me on my couch, on the beach, on the plane, and in magic deserts :)

Ashley [Free Honey] said...

OMG, while your mom's at it, can she just bring me this entire campaign too? Kk, thanks so much! I love the clothes, the hair, that blanket. Hell, I'll even take that guy! I love the attitude behind the whole shoot too...not only do I want the clothes, I want the lifestyle. Wanna go stomp around the desert with me???

Ugh, I'm a marketer's dream girl. I totally just fell for it.

this free bird said...

Ashley I'm right there with you girl. The thing is brilliant!

Let's fire up the motorbikes or camper/trailers and head off to the desert. Thanks Roots. Thanks.

xo,
C

Oh my--I don't know about swearing too harshly in the blogosphere, so Imma play it safe--EFFING God. And they ship to the US!!!!! These Navajo-inspired blankets NEED to be mine. Right now.

this free bird said...

ASHLEY!! #2 - I have that blanket on its way to me. BRACE. BRACE YOURSELF!! I will post upon receipt as I meander down to the beach and let my locks flow in the breeze in a weak attempt to live out this campaign in a beach town vs. desert. Then we can decide if it is that GAME ON IN PERSON...I almost beat down the UPS guy when he didn't have my delivery today. Can you say hot mess??

and this is reason number 45,312 why becoming a blogger has turned me into a full fledged shopaholic. I'm now having fantasies about that leather belt and lace top and rolled boots. good god.
