Coming Up Neutral

With spring around the corner - or at times it feels like 10 corners thanks to rain appearing yet again tonight - I find myself thinking about what's to come and how to freshen up my closet.  Does anyone else feel like heaving a bunch out and starting new? There is something about this time of year where days seem to drag by holding the next season just out of reach.  Spring?  I'll sure be glad when you get here.

Life would be so easy if only I could just toss everything into a crate at the end of each season and purchase a whole new line-up for what was coming next.  But the reality is it's not that easy, so I have to spend time thinking about what trends are on the horizon, what I already own that can be incorporated and what the budget will allow for additions here and there.  Ahhhh the life of an adult with bills.  Bills.  What a dirty word.  Tonight I spent some time looking over another one of my faves - Chloe - and the Spring 2011 RTW images.  Clearly neutrals are going to be big in the months ahead, so here are just some of the things that caught my attention and got me excited to start clearing space in the closet.

Nude ballet flats and sheer skirts.
High waisted leather shorts and wrap blouses.
(and skinny legs, but at the rate I'm going...)
Sleek lines and stark contrasts - there's that red again.
Slimming tops inside flowing pleated skirts.
Dual purpose here - look at the open back on the top walking away -
how beautiful is that??
Now how about this leather top buttoned to the skirt?
I love the lines on it - probably couldn't carry it off, but hats off to those who can.

I'm beyond thrilled that I picked up those faux leather high waist shorts at Aritzia in the fall (seen here).  They're most def going to be getting some more play time so that's great for my pocketbook.  One thing I've been looking at and holding off on is this skirt from Free People.

It looks pretty darn sheer and that kind of freaks me out, but after looking at the Chloe show I'm feeling a little more convinced.  I mean can you just imagine this with a tucked in thin, fitted black t and a pair of J.Simpson black Dany's on foot? (both of which I already own btw - werk that closet!)  What do you think?

Are any of you even thinking of coordinating for spring yet or are you still content with your winter wardrobes?  I could seriously use a boost to get me through...maybe I'll get some spring cleaning done this weekend.  Nah!  Who am I kidding?  Hope you have a great couple or few days off for those not working Monday!

Get the skirt. It's gorgeous and.... get the skirt. I'm STILL cleaning things out (never ends) and on the one hand, its liberating to be getting rid of so much and on the other, I just keep thinking of more things I want esp for spring and summer. Ohhhh the madness.

Oh my the flowing pleated skirt is breathtaking! Sheer skirts still freak me out and I'd work it with a pretty slip underneath!

The slimming top with the open back is amazing!
(I could never pull it off, but I love it).
Isn't spring always like this? The urge to start over is so strong, sigh, maybe one day. Alas, I have bills too.

my garsh lady. you really inspire me to care a lot more about what I put on my body everyday.
I think fashion can be so incredibly confusing, and it is so nice to have you break it down a bit.

Those ballet flats look legit- college dance major here lol
And I am kind of swooning over the hair and make-up in the runway show.

If you do get rid of a bunch of stuff, my address is.... oh maybe that's a bad idea...

p.s. if you don't quit acting like you need to lose weight, I am going to come to Cali and give you a nice stern talking to

I am sooooo bored with my winter closet by now, can't wait until it is t-shirt and flats weather again! Those sheer skirts are gorgeous, though I don't know if I would be brave enough to wear one.

I am obsessed with the 2nd-to-last Chloe look too! The skirt color is somehow perfect and the cutout back on the top is perfs. You could def rock that Free People skirt and if you pair it with pieces you already own, you will expand your wardrobe options, so that's totally justifiable, right?! ;)

These looks are all so gorgeous, and I'm smitten with the little pops of red! Ah, spring time...since SF is the same temperature pretty much year round, I've stopped shopping seasonally altogether!

Have a wonderful weekend darling!

Can i just tell you how much I LOVE Chloe!!! Ever since they had the Paddington Lock Bag, I have been somewhat obsessed...And one of my favorite trends right now is pleats!!! So 70's! So effortless! So beautiful!

That dirty word, bills, definitely keeps me from chucking my wardrobe and starting anew. I get that urge so strong sometimes too, but it just can't happen (until I win the lottery).

You should totally get that skirt from Free People. You already have the outfit planned for it, don't be afraid of the sheerness.

I have a colorful, sheer pleated skirt and let it sit in my closet for over a year because I had no idea what to wear underneath. I put on some leggings and called it a day. :) If you're braver than I am, you can rock some biker shorts underneath too.

I am in LOVE with Chloe. Those sheer skirts are so beautiful. You need to get that Free People skirt! I want one but what would i wear underneath? Certainly not just my skivvies! Oh and side note: that model in the second picture is way too skinny, I had a hard time looking at what she was wearing, instead i was looking at her 3" diameter legs! Eek.

So second attempt today at seeing Bieber! I will for sure let you know what I think! you've got me so pumped!

Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!

I love these sleek, sophisticated looks! The first runway look is my favorite. It is just so clean and chic. Sigh.

Do I ever feel like freshening up my closet! I have gone six months (and counting...although that may soon change) without shopping. I adore Chloe and the looks you highlighted are stunning. Nude flats: leg lengthening without a heel? Yes, please! And, I'm obsessed with those leather shorts!

Happy the Spider Man pic brought a smile to you! Those things crack me up!

Louise (Fifth Sparrow) said...

Oh my gosh. That skirt has. to. be. mine. It's perfect!! What to wear underneath though?? A leotard? I don't think I'm brave enough to go au natural! :)
And yes, I definitely get the urge to go on a huge closet revamp in the spring (and the fall...) I'm so trying to be good this year, but I see myself caving already!
Can't wait to see what you fill the wardrobe with! xx

I feel that if the entire world dressed in monochrome neutrals, there would be fewer fashion mishaps.
Then again, there would be fewer people to mercilessly mock because more people would look good.
So I take it back.

I think I suffer from 'neautral-sickness'(?) ... in other words.. that's all I buy/wear .. Good thing the fashion industry is on the same bandwagon! Woot! ...Absolutely loving the first picture... there's something seriously wonderful about that nude tone.. It's soft and feminine, and never detracts from the woman wearing it! :))

Love your blog! You rock! x

I have a funny opinion about your proposed outfit: if you wore a black top with it, then the amazing contrast of the black ribbon belt would be dimmed.

Love the skirt, though the sheer would freak me out too.
