This or That: Fisherman Knits

I'm in the market to update my closet with a couple of sweaters for winter, and have
always been a fan of this style.  Isabel Marant's version is a real beauty, but at a whopping
(at least for my budget) $775 there's basically no chance of that mother landing in my
closet anytime soon.  The other day I was out shopping when Alexa Chung's version caught my eye.
It looks pretty close, is cut to hit just at the hip and has a bit of a shrunken fit like so many of
the cable knits that are out now.  I do believe that was a rhyme.  I scooped up Alexa's version and think
it'll be cute with shorts and tights or denim and boots.

What do you think?  Go big or go home?

There's not $775 in my budget for a sweater, so I'd be going with Alexa's version. Looks close enough to me :)

OMG, I really like this post and I like the Alexa Chung version a lot. Cable knit sweaters are one of my favorite trends right now.

at $140 it may as well be $775 for me... geez? is there a Gap/F21/H&M knock off version? You know i need sweaters. London in 30days! no joke.

There was a j.crew one that went on sale for $69.99 but it's sold out now. UGH. I bet H&M has something. Storm the gates bird!

is it weird that i probably don't even spend $775 on clothes for myself for a whole year? i'm very thrifty, you see. :) nonetheless, the alexa sweater is beautiful!

Just found one at Gap for $60 i think (men's dept) then a much less chunky but very cute Old Navy one for $20! I work at a freakin' mall, all day this black friday. Holy hell. I'm going to die.

Not opposed to wearing men's clothing.

I like the Alexa one, but both look great.
There's something along the same vein at Old Navy in case you wanted even more money in your pocket or a different color in that kind of sweater.

I love the Alexa Chung version. Have you check out Old Navy? I was there earlier in the week and I saw some chunky knits, might be worth checking it out.
Have a fab holiday!

Alexa can do no wrong- you did right! I can't wear knits like that- I'm so short and squat I just look like a big ball of yarn. You'll look gorgeous in it with your model body. Can't wait to see it!

Great comparison! (esp since I love the inexpensive version, which makes me love Madewell even more!)

Have a great and Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!

You did good Carrie!

As much as I adore the Isabel Marant sweater, I think the Alexa Chung is a good substitution. $700 is a lot to spend on a sweater. I can't wait to see how you style it!

whoa $775 is way too much for that sweater. The Alexa sweater was definitely the way to go.

Love both of those sweaters, but definitely prefer the price of Alexa Chung's! And thanks so much for the advice on job interview outfits! I will def be putting more effort into picking out accessories to complement the look! :)

I can't imagine spending that much on a sweater ~ you just know that I would drip spaghetti sauce down the front of it or something! I actually bought a similar one last winter ~ I love it with jeans ~ they are a classic aren't they?

Cute winter shorts and tights will fit perfectly with your new Alexa knit! I love it!

Go for the cheapie, if you're anything like me you'll be glad you did when you spill coffee on it the first time you wear it :)

Lila said...

Agree - the Alexa knit looks close enough. Will be super cute with the shorts and tights. So wish my legs would rock tights and shorts....not so much.

Ooh, I love these sweaters. Makes me feel instantly comfy. I just need cocoa and a fire crackling.

I honestly think the Alexa Chung ones looks more wearable. The Isabel Marant is pretty, but I feel like it would be harder to dress up to wear nicer places...and I feel like you wouldn't pay &775 (hopefully no one would) to have a cozy sweater.

Leeann @ Join the Gossip said...

I'm cheap so I tend to go with the lower priced item lol!
